Hello all -

About a year back I struck a fantastic money saving deal on a reliable server provider, all towards hosting the likes of The Soldat homepage, lobby, soldat forums, and many other Soldat-related sites. I even travelled to the remote country it was situated in and sealed the deal in person.

Obviously with recent developments, that hasn't worked out as long as I had hoped.

The server is being moved from a temporary datacenter I found in Morocco to one that is faster, cheaper, more stable and easier to reach in case of emergency.

Please watch for any broken sites and post here - or more preferably e-mail me immediately at ryan@u13.net - if you see anything. Please include the URL you attempted to access in the message.

I will be migrating the forums first.

Basically, things may be inaccessible for a short time as servers switch from main to temporary and back; and keep our eyes open for any errors that may arise from transferring all the data.

Yes there was a migration-related change which has taken it down. It is back up now.

Status otherwise: the server should be delivered today, I plan to have it in the new datacenter by monday or tuesday.

The server was originally planned to be installed last night but unfortunately once I received it from the current host I realized that the rails I have aren't the right ones even though I thought they were. The correct rails are in storage up in NY, so I'll be getting them later this week and installing the server next Saturday hopefully - then migrating services back to it over the next week following that.

Note that after MM's server is all done, I will be moving the other two servers of mine in Chicago one at a time. In particular I need to figure out what I'm going to do about the game servers and stuff I host on outcry.u13.net. Do people think it'll be ok if that server is just down without a replacement for a week or so?

I'd appreciate any input on that or ideas so that I can deal with it the best. What I want to avoid is needing to migrate every game server and stuff off of that server only to need to do it again a week later - that is a lot of work and very prone to error on random crap.

I don't know what you host on that server, but actually: one week is nothing in the Soldat world. As long it is not the lobby-server, I don't think there will be much complaints.

I host some Elite CTF servers and similar things for various communities and some gathers, plus I think some of my servers are used by SCTFL - I guess those are the guys I need to hear from

Can you tell me if you're still having problems? If you are, then you've probably got an old DNS result for the static content server for some reason.

Nope, still the same as shown in the pictures.
Checked in two different browsers (chromium and mozilla), and also tried it on my mobile phone, always the same.

Guys, please post what IP addresses you get when you do the following:

ping forums.soldat.pl
ping static.forums.soldat.pl
ping static.thd.vg

The lack of styling means that you're not hitting the static content server for some reason, which means you may be hitting an old IP address (it was moved yesterday)

the forums seem to be REALLY slow since yesterday.

Pinging to static.forums.soldat.pl (=static.soldat.pl) and static.thd.vg times out.

I fixed this last night but then found an issue just now which kept a DNS change from propagating correctly. *now* it's definitely fixed.

So obviously people couldn't really get on the forums to post about this problem when it first started happening, but I wish some people would have e-mailed me at either ryan@u13.net or admin@forums.soldat.pl to get this fixed faster. Instead, it was over 24h from the time it broke to the time I got the first report of something being broken.

In any case, thank you for the reports and I'm glad to say it should be 100% fixed now
