[RFC] IRSSI
« on: April 02, 2011, 12:43:02 pm »
I've just started using this software instead of overrated mIRC. It's running on Debian and I connect to it through SSH (Putty on windows). I'm writing to ask about any PROtips you can give me about this program, additional features, perl scripts you use, configuration, themes, changing ident, real name... etc.

I managed to add split window for hilights, tweaked timestamps and turned auto-logging on.

Any suggestions are welcomed. :)

I suggest getting mIRC :)

@low: Good base requires long setup, it's not that hard anyway.

Read this: http://quadpoint.org/articles/irssi

Feel free to ask me questions over IRC. I've been using irssi/screen since 2007 exclusively and I wouldn't have it any other way.

I suggest getting mIRC :)

He said he didn't want to use it in the first post. Way to fail at reading. :P

I really got tired of using mIRC after 2 years of using it...wanted something new.

I used this article as a base for setting up IRSSI. It's really nice guide. I'd like to know if there's anything beyond this. Maybe some nicklist window or stuff...

There are nicklist scripts: http://scripts.irssi.org/

I don't really care for them though; I consider them to be a waste of screen space. When I care about who's in a channel, I just run /names

I have just tried the nicklist script before you wrote this - I didn't like it. I guess I'll use /names too.

Is there a way to change displaying of ctcp, notices from q and all that stuff in window it should be displayed instead of status window?

[edit - added theme/script suggestions]

check this theme (to be used with nickcolor.pl , otherwise it's rather bland) http://st0rage.org/~n2j3/?page_id=225716265

It's either Liberation Mono or a custom font made with PCFtoFON (ref: http://www.ank.com.ar/fonts/ - custom cause iso8859-1 lacks greek glyphs)

These scripts I use
13:44 autowhois       /home/zakath/.irssi/scripts/autorun/autowhois.pl
13:44 keepnick        /home/zakath/.irssi/scripts/autorun/keepnick.pl
13:44 ho_operwall     /home/zakath/.irssi/scripts/autorun/ho_operwall.pl
13:44 autoaway        /home/zakath/.irssi/scripts/autorun/autoaway.pl
13:44 sana_cmd        /home/zakath/.irssi/scripts/autorun/sana_cmd.pl
13:44 autoop          /home/zakath/.irssi/scripts/autorun/autoop.pl

the ones that are useful for you are probably autowhois/keepnick/autoaway
