Went for and received my B.S. in Software Engineering. I went for it because I'm better with computers than most other things, and it good me a good job in return. However, I'm sure a large part of my "qualification" was the prestige of MSOE, the school I went to (though I'm darn good at what I do). In other words, the degree represents the level of commitment you're willing to put forth. This is a big deal, especially in the software field where knowledge becomes obsolete every few years.
