Soldat iPhone clone

Just now I stumbled upon a game called Doodle Army 2.
It plays very much like Soldat - 2D soldiers with jet boots run around and shoot stuff. And it's not half bad actually, although many features are still missing (but will be added eventually).
It's free right now in the app store, but I'm not sure how long it'll stay like that so get it while you can.

By the way, take a look at a nice parallax effect. Definitely something that Soldat should have at some point.

Just downloaded it and it's awesome. Except that the sniper gun has no sniper mode nor zoom, but I guess that's to come.

Only if it's optional. I'm still more of a fan of Soldat of the simpler days, when maps were pretty much single textured poly's with just colour to differentiate details. Hmm, now I'm feeling nostalgic.. gotta see if I can find my version of map maker plus.

On another note, I love the ring control and I'm glad that iOS makes touch controls like that easily possible. I once had an idea of using a ring and wanted to mod a controller with a touch area/ring/pad of some kind for the right thumb to see how well that would work with Soldat. I remember when people kept asking about using a controller and honestly it would be nice to be able to sit back in an easy chair and play Soldat on my tv. Atm, twiddling a thumb stick is just not feasible or fast enough to aim.

Speaking of clones.. You guys know this game called Metal Assault. It's sort of a Metal slug meets Soldat, and has a MMO style of leveling up and upgrading weapons and whatnot. Overall it's not a bad 2D shooter.
Maps look and feel like CS or TW maps. Might be really appealing for players of those Soldat modes.
