Woah... I made a FTP server today.
« on: May 01, 2011, 11:09:53 am »
I think I got it to work, I basically made a ftp server to share all my pictures and stuff that I have collected from various websites. I thought it would be easier for people to browse through pictures on a very simple interface rather than clicking tabs and blowing up the picture and whatnot. Saves time.

ftp://98.194.100.78

Username: Squirtle
Password: 666

You can use it however you like, if there is any problems just pm me. I'm kind of passionate with my collection so expect the folders to get bigger.

Also, I'll just warn people who have dial-up right now (I doubt a lot of you have dial-up but just in case...). The Ultra Res folder will kill your bandwidth and drag it into the deep bowels of hell (is that the right wording for it?), not even joking. They are like... approx. 6000 x 4000 resolution and are meant to be theatrical posters used for printing rasturbations (making a really big picture by putting together normal size A4 size paper).

Definition for rasterbation:
Tiled printing, sometimes known as rasterbating, is a feature of many computer programs that enables them to print images larger than a standard page. The program overlays a grid on the printed image in which each cell (or tile) is the size of a printed page and then prints each tile.

@ds dude: Care to share real IP or you think that localhost will do? :)

You probably have to fix your router/firewall.

I think you'll have to forward port 21.

Anyway, your link still needs to be fixed - it should be ftp://... and not http://ftp://...
Or maybe it's forums doing this weird shizz?

look at the first post, it's properly linked.

Edit: fixed the second link as well, and I also forwarded the port 21.

I don't think it's port 21. It doesn't work. Maybe you didn't forward it properly?
There should be said somewhere in ftp documentation which port it uses.

Hmmm... default port is 21. I'll look in the documentation under the Port section.

21 + 20 if in active mode, or 21 + huge port range for passive mode transfer (ports over 1024, which ones depends on ftp server)

Forwarded port 20, and changed it to use the default ip, it was set on something else.

Hopefully it works now.

dude, it'll always work for you, as you're the local host. And no, it's still doesn't work for us

IP in link seems to be unused (i bet you have dynamic IP)

You should only be using passive mode (this is determined by the client, not the server) since active mode involves some seriously weird shit and requires you to forward port 20 as well as 21.

Don't worry about me, I just want to spread this stuff around. I know there are people like me that would enjoy this, especially the ultra hi res pictures.

I'll be adding stuff constantly too.. its like a hobby of mine. I also noticed I need to get better internet, sorry if the download speeds are crap.

Why don't you make it public and kill the need for username/pw?

That's a good idea, I really don't know why I put a pass and username on it.

Edit: Keeps asking for username and pass even when I uncheck the boxes for it. I'll just keep it passworded for now.

It's really annoying to browse, as it asks for username and pw for every single thing I click.

Have no idea what could be causing that, PQ didn't seem to have that problem though.
