The world didn't end... again
« on: May 23, 2011, 09:04:13 pm »
So, I guess we have to wait another year? Do you think people will stop predicting it after it doesn't happen in 2012? I mean, 2012 is the big one... well, actually 2000 was the big one... 2020, anyone?

Also, isn't Jesus late?... What's up with that? Trust a guy who creates time to forget how to keep track of it.

Forum seems dead, maybe this is actually the rapture? Thoughts? I think I'm going back to blondes.

It funny to go to the 2012 forums and see all those people making topics about what to buy and how to take shelter.

Just imagine them in their basement with a shitload of the stuff that they bought on ebay and then... nothing happens.

Lolz.

What do you mean, "Isn't Jesus late?"

And more to the point, people won't stop predicting the end of the world until we've found a cure for stupidity.

The second coming was a prediction too. Anyway, I agree.

The second coming was a prediction too.

Not really; it's what all the predictions were based on.  For example, if a relative died and left a will, we could all predict what we're getting; that doesn't make the will itself a prediction.

And once again, how is Jesus late? Do you have inside information that I don't about when he's coming back?

No, it's just stupid people proclaiming that either Jesus/God is coming or the world is over and other bulls**t.

-Matthew 24:36-44

"But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,[a] but only the Father."

No one knows when he is coming. Maybe he's lazy? ( or you can say... >implying he is ever coming, implying bible is 4real, etc ) It's only been several hundred/thousand years...

About the will, if the will is public and we all have read it, it is a certainty not a prediction on who's getting what, provided the estate has the items and is willing to give them to the deceased's chosen recipients. I don't think the will is a good example in this case.

As for jesus being late, it's been 2000+ years but since no one knows when he'll be back then I guess that's irrelevant. We can safely say however that god and friends are taking their sweet ass time.

And more to the point, people won't stop predicting the end of the world until we've found a cure for stupidity.
Read: never. Either idiots or severe pessimists or black hole/end of world theoreticians/scientists will always be predicting our impending doom.

Meh, as far as I'm concerned the world could end this very hour, nothing I can do about it. It's called the end of the world, so basically, no shelter can keep me alive, nor can it keep anyone else alive for that matter.

But in my opinion, people always try to predict when the world will end to give them the illusion of acceptance, and security, so that if anything happens, and nothing will, they would have already convinced themselves that they're ready for it.

Asked if he had any advice to offer those who had given away their material wealth in the belief the world was about to end, Mr Camping said they would cope.

"We just had a great recession. There's lots of people who lost their jobs, lots of people who lost their houses... and somehow they all survived," he said.

how much of a moron do you really have to be to openly compare the impact of your own failed prophecy with that of the modern financial crisis. i just love how this reads like "these peoples lives were destroyed once. doesnt matter if it happens again". monarch of cunts

Jesus announced the Kingdom of God, but the church came. Here we are, over 2000 years later, waiting for his return and the end of the world.

Funny joke, hu?

Christianity isn't the only religion that mentions the end of the world, and there is absolutely nothing that even resembles a prediction about when it will happen, only signs that will show us that the end is near, but no specific date/time/day...etc.
Whereas Islam was somewhat more accurate in it's predictions, an example being Muhammad predicting that in the future people will be talking to their own hands...Look at today's cellphones.
And that people will see diseases their ancestors never even knew about, because they will commit indecencies such as gay sex. Which is how AIDS was introduced for the very first time in the Middle-East.

All-in-all, it's a pretty interesting topic, but too damn shady imho.

That's a very free interpretation of Muhammad's words. We aren't talking to our hands, are we?

Maybe you should convert to Islam, you willingly acknowledge that it was more accurate in it's predictions. I'm sure that has nothing to do with any kind of self-affirmation of Islam that might exist within an Islamic country, such as the one which you reside in. Shady indeed.

Talking into your hands? That's only for the mentally ill, A.K.A people possessed by demons.

May I suggest that people were conscious enough to recognise that people learn and gain knowledge over time and so made blanket statements about future generations having more knowledge than the present? Particularly about currently widely misunderstood things such as diseases? Homosexuality was clearly prevelant enough 'back then' to have been acknowledged by outlawing it. So why pretend that there's anything new about men taking it up the ass? It clearly happened throughout history just as it does throughout nature. Suddenly we're in the post-enlightment age of mass information and communication and liberated societies so we actually are very aware of the fact that homosexuality goes on and has always gone on. You do realise that AIDS can be spread through heterosexual intercourse too right?...

Right!?!?

Back then, the word "Communications" meant ink and paper.

Well that's a bunch of arse. 'Back then' 98% of people were illiterate and uneducated. Communication was spoken word, not ink and paper.

Ever heard of a thing called The Abbasi era?
You may call it the golden era of Islam literature and education. An astonishing 80% in that time period were very capable of reading and writing entire letters, some people estimate.
Let's not forget that some of the foundations of European knowledge have their roots in Muslim findings in science and literature alike.

Now why would I convert to some other religion? Just because they got a "prediction", that you claim is a blind guess, right? Nah, as I said, my mind may shake, but my faith won't quake.

Also, you may not know this, but Christianity and Islam alike discourage propaganda, whether it's coming from governments of private parties.

Let's get this straight: You actually believe that if it weren't for gay sex, AIDS would've still spread just as fast among people? Give me a break. I've been told that the very first known cases of AIDS, of which there was a lot, were passed along during homosexual fornication. We both know it's true.

And last but not least, seeing as you're Mr. Give Me Proof, why don't you give me actual proof, that I can see, hear, smell, touch, and taste, of people having gay sex  years ago?

I couldn't find anything about the Abbasi era online. At least nothing related. Please give proof.

Europeans got a lot of knowledge from the Muslims during the crusades. This doesn't mean that every citizen knew all that stuff. This only means that 'back then' they had progressed faster than the other countries.

So how did HIV spread from homosexuals to heterosexuals? And why the hell do you sound like you hold the homosexual people responsible for HIV?

Step aside, Mangled*.  I got this.

Let's get this straight: You actually believe that if it weren't for gay sex, AIDS would've still spread just as fast among people? Give me a break. I've been told that the very first known cases of AIDS, of which there was a lot, were passed along during homosexual fornication. We both know it's true.

Wikipedia says there were cases of AIDS (unidentified at the time) prior to that "Patient Zero," but never mind that for right now.  Let's say the guy was heterosexual.  Would that have magically protected his (female) partners from getting AIDS from him?  Heck, some might argue it would spread even faster, as there are more heterosexuals than homosexuals in the world, so you'll have a greater variation in the people who could get it.

And last but not least, seeing as you're Mr. Give Me Proof, why don't you give me actual proof, that I can see, hear, smell, touch, and taste, of people having gay sex  years ago?
As the great Clint Eastwood once said: "Go ahead, make my day".

I don't know how much you'll want to smell or taste this, but hopefully you can see it.

Quote from: Genesis 19:4-5
Before they had gone to bed, all the men from every part of the city of Sodom—both young and old—surrounded the house.  They called to Lot, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them.”

So even back in the days of Genesis, people were into homosexuality.  Where do you think the term "sodomy" came from?

Now why would I convert to some other religion? Just because they got a "prediction", that you claim is a blind guess, right? Nah, as I said, my mind may shake, but my faith won't quake.

Jingle bells.

Also, you may not know this, but Christianity and Islam alike discourage propaganda, whether it's coming from governments of private parties.
Riiiiiiiiiight.

Yeah, so putting up billboards saying "Jesus loves you" and putting signs on public transport saying that the rapture is here and sayings like "One nation under God" is in no way propaganda. I don't think you even know what propaganda is. If you think an Islamic or Christian nation doesn't self-affirm their religions then where did you come across all this nonsense in the first place? For someone who 'only gets their information from the Church' you certainly seem to be full of Islamic affirmations.

"My mind may shake, but my faith won't quake". Now doesn't that sound like propaganda? In it's purest form, self-affirmation of ideology. Of course it doesn't sound like propaganda to you, you are the impressionable person on which it has already taken affect. You may aswell be one of the smartly dressed smiling insincere people who try to shove church flyers into my hand on a daily basis.

Let's get this straight: You actually believe that if it weren't for gay sex, AIDS would've still spread just as fast among people? Give me a break. I've been told that the very first known cases of AIDS, of which there was a lot, were passed along during homosexual fornication. We both know it's true.

It seems to be only you who finds it necessary to twist others words in order to to facilitate your invalidation of what they haven't said. I said AIDS can be spread through heterosexual intercourse. I didn't say that homosexual intercourse wasn't at all responsible for it.

Also, you've 'been told that the very first cases of AIDS were passed along during homosexual fornication'? Told by who? The church? A priest? Your parents? Anybody reputable? As far as I know it has been established that AIDS originated in species of primates in Africa and a human had sexual intercourse with one which is how it was passed onto humans. Human-animal intercourse is not homosexuality, in fact it was most likely a human male and a female chimpanzee. That's inter-species heterosexual intercourse.

And last but not least, seeing as you're Mr. Give Me Proof, why don't you give me actual proof, that I can see, hear, smell, touch, and taste, of people having gay sex  years ago?
As the great Clint Eastwood once said: "Go ahead, make my day".

Your ignorance never fails to satisfy me. See, all you had to do was use the internet, you know, that thing you're using to post on this forum.

Wikipedia: Homosexuality
Though often ignored or suppressed by European explorers and colonialists, homosexual expression in native Africa was also present and took a variety of forms. Anthropologists Stephen Murray and Will Roscoe reported that women in Lesotho engaged in socially sanctioned "long term, erotic relationships" called motsoalle. E. E. Evans-Pritchard also recorded that male Azande warriors in the northern Congo routinely took on young male lovers between the ages of twelve and twenty, who helped with household tasks and participated in intercrural sex with their older husbands. The practice had died out by the early 20th century, after Europeans had gained control of African countries, but was recounted to Evans-Pritchard by the elders to whom he spoke.

The first record of possible homosexual couple in history is commonly regarded as Khnumhotep and Niankhkhnum, an Egyptian male couple, who lived around the 2400 BCE. The pair are portrayed in a nose-kissing position, the most intimate pose in Egyptian art, surrounded by what appear to be their heirs.
