Firstly: This is not trolling racist or intentionally offensive. It is an objective look at the design, technology and engineering that arised from Germany during WWII and an appreciation for the quality and thought behind those designs regardless of the ideology that drove their production.

I have the ability to see things in shades of grey and not black and white. If you don't then it's your own fault if you find any of the imagery, opinion or content expressed in this post offensive or objectional.

I remember many years ago jrgp warned me and deleted a post by me where I posted a Nazi Wehrmacht insignia in a discussion about designs. I hope this time around things will be different and everyone can act more mature about it.

It's not politically correct but I have an appreciation for Nazi design and the grandeur and the intricacy and the psychological suggestion behind their designs and concepts that gave them such a powerful image. So I thought I'd share it here and inspire people to see things in a different light.

Designs

Nazi uniforms were the most unique among all the military clothing of all the nations in the time period. They used sharp clean lines and distinct shapes do denote strength, authority, order and cleanliness. You can instantly recognise the position rank and job held by their uniform shapes and colours. These designs could be considered the height of fashion with regards to war time uniform design.

Their badges and insignias were bold, intricately decorated and yet easily distinguishable:

Their armored vehicles and tanks were designed to look menacing and strong with rigid bold geometric shapes making them seem like inpenetrable, unstoppable behemoths.

Many Nazi aircraft were designed to look menacing and resemble flying insects such as wasps.

Innovations

They explored many interesting concepts and designs and in fact produced the world's first functional helicopter: The Focke-Wulf 61.

They invented the rocket engine for the V-2 Rocket, a jet propelled international ballistic missile, the first weapon of its kind. The rocket engine design is still in use today for launching spacecraft.

They produced the first jet-powered aircraft: The Messerschmitt 262

And other prototype jet-powered aircraft such as the Henschel 132:

The world's first stealth aircraft: The Horten 229

The world's first assault rifle: The Sturmgewehr 44

It cannot be denied that many of the scientific, technological and engineering feats of the modern world are directly owed to the developments pushed forward by the Nazis. It's just a shame they had to go around trying to take over the world eh?

I'm very interested in their badges, by looking at them you can see they put a lot of work in them because obviously they took pride in being a Nazi.

The SS Sentry uniform is also my favorite.

My Elite Honour Guard will kill your poor SS Sentry anyday.

It is my favourite, because I wear it when I go to school

Learn to comprehend what context something is being said in. You've genuinely managed to confuse me with the association you've made.

You need to make people feel special, if they don't feel that way they will stop killing people for you. If you are made to be a "respected" member of their army who has some flashy clothes and is with other flashy people you are fine. They were, technologically speaking, probably twenty or thirty years ahead of everyone else. Psychologically, they were much further. They seemed to do 90% right, and I think a lot of people forgot that the other ten percent can be wrong. Perfect execution and completely taken people off guard.

I agree that if you try to ignore the atrocities the Nazis (and friends) committed, the artsy and styleish stuff they created is slightly cool. It's half the reason games like Wolf3D are so cool.

I remember many years ago jrgp warned me and deleted a post by me where I posted a Nazi Wehrmacht insignia in a discussion about designs. I hope this time around things will be different and everyone can act more mature about it.

Yeah, well, :-\

Oh, also, IBM worked on a lot of the stuff the Nazis used, so they're also responsible for the engineering feats.

He has a point there. :P

You sure mangled this one. While not everyone may remember that correlation does not equal causation, most people know when something feels backwards. In this case, designs made while Germany was under Nazi leadership does not make their designs inherently antisemitic or whatever you're trying to say. Calling German designs "Nazi design" in the thread title is intentional misdirection on your part and reflects poorly on your purported righteous truthfulness.
Stick with subjective issues if you want to play in the mud.

Though I will never ever justify the evil Nazis, there were some good things they did that just boggles my mind. I found out about a few weeks ago that some of the head Nazis including Hitler and Goering were animal lovers and believed in animal rights. Goering even banned vivisection. WTF!!!??? That hurts my head.. so murder fellow men, women and CHILDREN in horrible concentration camps with horrible methods, but believe that animals must be treated with respect???

Germany still has some modified versions of Nazi animal welfare laws in place.

I asked a friend once, what would have happened if they had only did good things such as pass animal welfare laws, but didn't invade other countries and murder people. How would they then be perceived.

Military stuff is cool.  What's your point? You're not going to rile up anyone by sticking the word "Nazi" in front of things that everyone already thinks is pretty sweet.

While Germany was under nazi leadership, it became a country of extremes. As a result, many new ideas came out, that were either extremely good or extremely bad. While the whole nazi thing is covered in sort of a negative veil, due to obvious reasons, a couple of good ideas came along as well. People have a tendency to disregard any positive shine the nazi administration may have stumpled upon, simply because it's "evil".

Anyway, back on topic. One of the great things about Germany at the time was its military structure, and the thought behind the design. Definitely agree with you there. However, let's not forget that for all its omnious..ness.. the Tiger Tank didn't win the war for Germany. While it was vastly superior in every way comapred to, say, the Sherman, the sheer cost (which meant it could not be massproduced in such great numbers as its American or Soviet counterparts) was one of the factors ultimately leading to defeat. The Germans are known for their passion for quality, and in many ways that became their weakness as the war was running out. They simply no longer had the military materiel to keep a good fight going, 'cause they selected quality over quantity to begin with. At least that's how I see it.

As for their uniforms.. very pretty. They did an excellent job of making a soldier of any given rank look like he's a somebody. I imagine it must be pretty cool, back in the day, to be given a fine uniform like that, and suddently you didn't only belong to the elite, but you had a smashing uniform to show for it too. It's easy to get blinded by all the fascist bling.
I fucking miss all you cunts!

The Nazi party came to power because Germany lost in WWI. As what they did before 'just didn't work' they decided to try out all the new ideas that WWI spawned. They also didn't have to deal with an established military industrial status quo as Britain and France became bogged down with. Finally, there was great pressure on the Germans to take what they can and run with it considering the harsh concessions forced upon Germany by the Allies.

It's easy to get blinded by all the fascist bling.

The facists promised wholesomeness and all that moral feelgood jazz. People usually forget that feelgood is only bought with a lot of feelbad. :S
