Improved spectating

While spectating a game, it would be nice if it was possible to choose more efficiently who to spectate. Instead of using the current right/left mouse clicking system.

Suggestions for improved spectating system.
-Having the players on 1-9 (in the same order as right click works)
-Binding player nicks/numbers in the taunt.txt
-Making a command like /spec <nick>/<number> <key (0-9 I suppose)>

Increasing the packets received as spectator, or whatever you do to make it look so laggy (so it looks smoother for spectators).

Make players position visible on the mini-map for spectators.

I don't see any relation between this topic and that one.

Having a sort of drop down menu would just look very messy, and kill the point of having improved spectating anyway.

at least it will be less retarded than using text commands in the bloody 21st century. And the messiness is arguable

not too many games that has a pause function either. besides, it shouldn't be very hard to do.

As pavliko said this only works for less then 10 players so this will not work :P

I don't see a reason to do this for nicks (I don't think you will open your taunts.txt edit the nick in it and then restart soldat to switch to that player).
Numbers would have the same issue. You would have to edit the taunts.txt to get that working. Now imagine using 32 keys for this.

This is slower then clicking a few times (requires more concentration imho).

While in spectators: Open f1 menu - click a player to spectate.
IMHO this is currently the best solution besides simple clicking, however the playerlist changes so you might click on the wrong player when the player score changes.

So not it's not really that great.

I don't see why we need to spend time on something that works, it's just as much pain clicking those menus as it is clicking the mousebutton a couple of times.

it's only reason is for streaming. having to mess with a huge drop down menu kills the whole point with it.

the first suggestion with 10 player cap would work, I doubt you'd ever want to spec a match with more than that many players, it'd already be hard enough to remember 10 players position.

Same with taunt.txt, as you already know the nicks you'll be watching, there wouldn't be a problem.

IMO tho, the 3rd option would be the best, as it'd be really quick to set up, and then have whoever wherever you want.

oh, and it would be nice if spectators received as many packets as players. there are rarely spectators anyway, so the bandwidth difference isn't too big. And as previously suggested, make it possible to see the players position on the mini-map while you're in spectators team.

your opponent can just say "no spec" and then that problem is solved. and if you're on teamspeak, you can just have somebody ghost anyway...
