Beaver Hunter 2006
« on: August 19, 2006, 02:50:55 am »
Oh yay - I and a friend of mine has made another crappy game. We are both fans of the Deer Hunter series. And we like beavers.
This is the result - Beaver Hunter 2006.

Michal was kind enough to allow me to use some sounds from Soldat in one of my games yet again. Great thanks!

And the website, a level editor is avaliable there as well:

Thanks. :D Michal said he liked it too back when it was still in development.

Originally we were going to sell exclusive boxed copies as well, but... it never happened. Though I made cover art, autorun programs and everything.

Eh, it was fun while it lasted.  It'd be nice if you could get a nuke or something after the bazooka.

You've got the bazooka already?!

Well, I only say this: the Check for Updates function is there for a reason.

Mmmm...

Yeah, if you just use the sandbox level you can kill about thirty beavers in a matter of seconds.  Especially when you have full reload, no stealth, and mines at your disposal -- you just lay them all around and scare the beavers right into them.

We've considered multiplayer - but there are some question marks that needs to be get straight:

- How will the players look like? Based on the look of the beavers, how do you think that I am able to draw some humans?
- Since I have a dynamic IP, I have no way to put a lobby up.
- The game would require pretty high system resources to keep up with even 4 players running around shooting like crazy.

But for sure it can be done.

I'll be honest. When I opened this topic, I expected a crappy game.

I haven't been this wrong since I thought cell phones were a type of instrument.

This game is actually pretty good! It's a greate time-killer if you need an FPS fix before school and don't have the time for Half-Life to load up, or if you had a bad day and need a mindless kill-fest. That being said, it's not without it's own flaws, although they aren't serious. For example, while riding the ATV, the point of view kinda sucks. It's like your looking at the ground. Kinda hard to drive around and hit beavers that way. I loved seeing beaver carcasses fly through the air after laying mines everywhere and spraying with the rifle.

Overall, i like it. Fun timewaster.

Use Doom sprites, or get somebody else to draw some characters for ya.
- Since I have a dynamic IP, I have no way to put a lobby up.
I dunno what to tell you here. ;-;
- The game would require pretty high system resources to keep up with even 4 players running around shooting like crazy.
Not really something to worry about, if you ask me.

But for sure it can be done. Damn right.

That the point of view is the way it is on the ATV is because it's a lot easier to see the beavers when coming up close to them.
But I tried it out with a *little* less pitch and it looked a lot better. So I'll fix that up in future versions.

i got bored way before 200 kills.

the paramund game kept my attention longer than that.

and i dont think the stats made much of a difference, i could see how bullets did not go strait but it was not a big deal.

i got 77 kills before i realized i could crouch, then almost never did.

HOLY SHIT!!! :) I love this game. I want to marry you now (gay marriges are legal, yes?)

No seriously, your Game Maker skills have gotten pretty good since the last game I've seen from you. If i had to say anything at all wrong with this game would be that you should have made all your own gun anim's (like instead of the doom ones) But hey, who cares? Doom was a cool game, and so is this ;)
