Check out my impressive build
« on: August 31, 2011, 09:33:27 pm »
Hehe, computer build that is.
http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=14692431

I'm slowly putting this together and already ordered the case and power supply. I'm thinking of getting this for a graphics card

Any thoughts, suggestions, opinions?

That isn't the great gpu, at least not to me. The bigger the number doesn't mean the better. Look at some benchmarks, like this one for instance.

http://benchmarkreviews.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=689&Itemid=72&limit=1&limitstart=7

Remember that the last two numbers in a Nvidia GPU determine it's peformance. For instance, the Nvidia 460 is a good card, but the Nvidia 560 is even better and thats what you should get. THe last two digit in these cards is 60, the first digit basically means "the higher the better." The Nvidia 560 is better than the Nvidia 580. The Nvidia 580 is more of a mid ranged ranged, probably low-mid range card actually.

Like in gaming laptops they have the 460M and the 560M. In lower end laptops they have the 310M.

Someone can probably explain this better, if you want more explanation I can try and say more.

EDIT: Nvm.. I thought you chose a 580... I misread the number on that link. Sorry. You can pretty much forget what I said.

build looks fine, but you can fine much cheaper ram, eg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231417

that video card is nice, def go for it if you can't afford anything higher

get a hyper 212+ for your CPU if you want to OC it (you have the K variant after all), it'd be worth the purchase

That motherboard is quite expensive, this saves you a bit and it's good: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157265&Tpk=Asrock%20P67%20Extreme4%20Gen3

I think the ram you took is better than the ram of EA, won't be much difference.

Personally not a big fan of antec power supplies, but they're ok. And really cheap :)
Don't forget a dvd drive and think about an ssd.

edit: the gpu is fine btw

why do you think his ram is any better than the one i picked out and then say there's not much difference?
get the gskill if you want to save some money, when it comes to 1333 vs 1600 there's no real difference between the two

So what's the computer meant for? It's decent enough for gaming, but lousy for general purpose use.

The reason why I dislike SSD is that the space shrinks over time. Yes, it's faster, but I prefer the good ol' HDD.

All HDDs can shrink over time as sectors go bad and the controllers recover from the damage... if that's even what you're talking about, because I've never heard that claim before. A cheap SSD i picked up two and a half years ago was and still is 112 GiB.

oh Hershey....

I got the hyper 212plus and the thing it huge! 4x than the heat-sink that came with the CPU. but it too big... it block one of my RAM slots. So If I want to upgrade my RAM I'll have to buy two new sticks to replace my current 2x (4GB) sticks. I still recommend the hyper though. A friend who also has the hyper did a benchmarking and showed me. It's temps rose to 62c, near the melting point. He stopped the test and with in a few seconds the CPU was back to 36c.

I've heard many good things about the 212+. I ordered low profile memory specifically because the taller ones didn't fit along with the cooler.

For me, personally I'd opt for cheaper ram and shift the money towards a gtx570.

For whatever it's worth: 600w for 55$, but probly stick with what you got anyway

pcu overload:
http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/323050.aspx

not bad: graphy graph cpu

that's my nerdy critique. so many builds possible, go insane cheapskating..
