Take weapon mods, for example. A good idea, but most servers with them really, really suck.

Too true.  Although, you obviously wouldn't play in those servers if there's a crappy WM, right?  This is the same idea -- I've been turned away from R/S because the current timer takes away from gameplay, so I'm asking for an option to reverse those negative additions.  Should this ever be added, players can likewise opt out of having to play in timer-free servers if they don't like that style of play (but once they try it, I seriously doubt many of them won't like it).

...it does seem like it would be inferior to the current system (which is, I would imagine, why it was changed to begin with)..

Whether or not it's inferior is a matter of personal opinion.  I think the current system is inferior because most people obviously have less fun playing this way.  The idea was to stop annoying people who like to prolong the round by refusing to cap the flag, but these were the same people who teamkilled in the middle of a round and should have been dealt with by being kicked, not by adding a timer.

I think the major mistake is giving the capturing team two points instead of one.
I'm not sure where you and drinkduff are getting the idea that you'd get two points. That never happened and it never will.

We got the idea from playing the game.  When you capture the flag, you get one point for surviving and one point for the capture.  Try it out sometime.

Also, I'm not sure where you get the idea that survival games are supposed to end in you teamkilling everyone.  If you want to kill each other, just do a deathmatch.  Besides, I can't see what makes killing teammates more fun than killing opponants.  At least in a deathmatch you get points for killing everyone.  Teamkilling is pointless (pun).

Most people obviously have less fun this way?  I don't mean to be rude or anything, but your opinion is hardly representative of the Soldat community in general.  And are you sure that the purpose was to stop people who captured the flag?  Soldat is a fast-paced game.  IMO, the timer was meant to move on to the next round.  Maybe it's fun for you to kill the rest of your team, but keep in mind the other team has to wait for you to finish, and people don't play Soldat so they can wait.  Since the result of the round is inevitable (the team with players left will capture the flag), the game is sped up to keep everyone playing.

Only anime shows I've felt any interest in over the years are Pokemon (original TV series) and various hentai.
so clearly jgrp is a goddamn anime connoisseur. his opinion might as well be law here.

I haven't because everyone begins yelling at you for grabbing the flag. :D  Keep in mind that the idea was to make it the way it used to be, so you wouldn't get points for killing the other team as a whole.

Hehehe.  I got the idea from the way most people used to play R/S.  Perhaps I just had the luck of being in servers where people did this every time I played...didn't you ever see people doing the same?

That's just nitpicking, knock it off.  I don't care about whether it's inferior or not, I really don't care whether I notice people having less fun than they used to (which is more observation than opinion, if joking around is any indication of having fun); what I do care about is that I know I have more fun the other way and from this thread I can tell that others feel the same.

Which brings me to the question of why you're arguing with me.  If you didn't like it back when it used to be fun, fine, don't play the new way.  But at least let those of us who want to have fun do so without you complaining.

Sure, the other team had to wait, but don't forget that I've done my share of waiting; I liked it because it gave me time to relax, joke around with the other players, and even eat a meal while I played.

As for your opinion being that the timer was meant to move us on to the next round, you can believe that all you want, but if you were a part of the thread where this idea came from you'd have seen that it was to stop people from abusing that extra time at the end of the round.

Well, I mean if this many people support it...I'm not really incredibly opposed to it anyway (I never actually voted against it), and it certainly wouldn't ruin the server like a weapons mod does.  I guess I don't see any big reason why this couldn't go in as a server option..
