Why else is binge drinking such a uniquely American problem?
not true...
Lolno.
Two things.
1) It's not uniquely american. Its an international thing.
2) It's not a problem.

Word on Demonic's.
Last year, I dreamt I was pissing at a restroom, but I missed the urinal and my penis exploded.

And as I read this I grab another beer...

Honestly I drink because:

A. I like the taste of what I drink. If something tastes like shit, I put it away or mix it with something else to make it taste good.
B. Drinking with friends is fun, after couple beers/shots/drinks we start discussing topics that we usually don't even think about.

My two cents on the topic.

Also, I turned 18 last October, so you might want to take this as words of an inexperienced drinker that has been drinking now and then for the last three years.

19, US college student, studying for BS CS.

Drunkenness makes me worse at literally everything I like doing.  I stay the hell away from loud shitty drunk people and their loud shitty "music".

It is bizarre that these people like doing such things and brag about how terrible they are at decision making as if they should be proud of it. I think that there is some expectation that the wildest partying they hear about is normal when in reality it is the outlier, so that these people believe that to be part of a social group they need to be wilder than they would otherwise like to be. US college party culture is based on a lie, and it perpetuates itself every time a moron brags about how shitfaced he got last night. Why else is binge drinking such a uniquely American problem?

not getting drunk is entirely your choice, and you not liking being drunk or drinking is also perfectly fine. however you're fucking stupid if you think a) binge drinking is a uniquely american problem(like seriously holy shit how can you think this without a lack of basic awareness of the rest of the world) and b) people are morons for getting shitfaced.

I never drank and never will.
People always tell me that they have respect for it.

When I tell smokers, that I never smoked and never will, they even
say that that's a good choice. When I ask them why they don't stop to smoke,
they tell me that they "don't want to" or something similar.

cool story bro

i used to think this and then i started smoking and drinking

k onto why i drink. personally, i'm 19 and i'm a first year studying a bsc(wanna switch to an msci cuz it's a masters for the price of a bachelors ololol)  in mathematics(people are posting their studies for some reason so why the hell not). i never was much of a drinker before because i didn't really have the time to do it as i was a social recluse before i went to university, but i still had had alcohol before and i knew what it did to me, and that's why i do it.

i suppose what i'm trying to say is i like the fact that it removes all of my inhibitions, which are what prevent me from making friends and forming relationships with people. i've learned how to control my drunkeness so i'm not projectile vomiting at people all the time(which is fairly easy, when you feel sick stop drinking and have some fucking water for christ's sake, don't drink more).

so i suppose the anti-alcohol people will ask: if it's so good then why not do it all the time? well fuck, mainly because i don't have the money but really; there are times to have a social life and times to get your fucking head down and sort out your studies. as long as it doesn't detract from one's other commitments, alcohol can be really great. if it interferes, then it's the worst thing ever.

though i will always prefer weed, but it's illegal and expensive. same goes for MDMA, but only at a good club.

I am also an alcoholic per Demonic's guidelines - I drink every day, regardless of setting (alone, or out with friends.) I am also a bartender, and a student, which contributes greatly. I also have not experienced any negative repercussions of my alcoholism, apart from having to shit about three times a day. In fact, drinking has improved my life and has been my most valuable networking tool. I even wrote my honors thesis on 'fylleangst', a Norwegian phenomenon re:the angsty feeling one gets the morning after a blackout. I concluded that fylleangst makes the world go 'round. Fuck sobriety!

It is unfortunately in Norwegian, but one of these days I plan on translating it so that I can give a lecture on it when I get back home to the States next year.

Drinking with friends is the greatest. Every saturday we fire up the Wii on a projector and have lots of friends over for good times and alcohol. It is without a doubt the highlight of my week.

I would never get drunk alone by myself, but in a social setting it can make a good time a hell of a lot better.

I too am 19 and a US College Student working for my Bachelor's degree. I find getting drunk and doing stupid shit is not the main perk I find in getting belligerently drunk. Whenever I drink, I ensure that there is/will be a wide selection of females drunk enough to take my ugly ass home with them. So far, I have had some success in this tactic. You see, the intoxicating feeling you get (intoxication) from alcohol can give men the confidence to make out with a girl just seconds after she made out with another woman. Then continue to make out with her until the next morning. I've found that the man gets drunk for confidence and a chance to "score." I found that if the women are drunk as well, they will be horny enough to hop in bed with a strange person of the opposite sex( which is the case for men, intoxicated or not, whether you want to admit it or not.)

That sir, is why I drink alcohol to get belligerently drunk.
