Error: Server could not verify hardware ID.

Hi,

I've just downloaded and installed Soldat 1.6.2, but it won't work.  If I start a game, everything is fine, but when I try to join a game, I get the error message in the title.  This happens for almost all servers as soon as I try to join.  There were 1 or 2 which would join successfully, but then once I chose a team, it dropped back to the server browser, the only thing visable was the same error (although I don't know if that was current, or left over from a previous attempt).  So, I have some (probably obvious) questions.

1)  Is there any way to fix/bypass this error to play online?  2)  What exactly is a "hardware ID"?  And 3)  Why is Soldat trying to find it?

This is on Windows XP SP3, Soldat 1.6.2, all above system requirements.

It's all well and good giving the error message, but there's no explanation of what to do about it.

1) Removing anti-cheat files would help in past. But now while it's official protection (even it's not working) probably you will cannot delete it just like that. Just follow zakath's words...
2, 3) Soldat has new anti-cheat that identify players by their hardware (not by an IP cause it can be hacked)

Thanks for trying to help, but I'm often told that downloading and running unnamed, unknown exe's received from unknown people is a good way to install a virus or trojan (and it doesn't help that when I searched for the filename, almost all search results on the first page were about trojans).

So, although it's probably fine, is this program hosted anywhere else on the web, like a trustworthy download site, for example?

It is a small program that will attempt to calculate your HWID, probably using the same method as soldat, so we can try and narrow down what the cause of your problem is.

Sorry for the late reply.

I ran the program, it opened a window that looked like the command prompt, then crashed with an error in kernel32.dll.

Faulting application hwid.exe, version 0.0.0.0, faulting module kernel32.dll, version 5.1.2600.5781, fault address 0x00012afb.

Is there any way to skip this so that I can just play the game?  I'm still getting the same error message no matter what server I try to join.

Sorry If I gave you any hopes, but you just have to believe that zakath will help you... So follow his orders and do what he says as best as you can...

If there's no possibility to fix it (i think there is a hope), you can try play older versions (there are still many players).

there is definite hope we can fix it, I have a good idea on what causes the error atm.

If that means that attachment has been saved as "index.php", then just change it's extension to '.rar', or simply open that "index.php" with an archive manager that support RAR format (e.g. 7zip or WinRar).
