What made you start playing soldat?
« on: February 02, 2012, 02:33:14 pm »
As soldat are a in bit of a downer, I was wondering what made you start playing soldat and how you found it? (basically what do we need todo to find new players)
For me it was introduced through some co-workers as they wanted to beat another company that played soldat so we all downloaded it and started playing.

I found out about it on some other forums I was on around 4 years ago , they were having some kind of forum tournament, so I figured I'd have a look. Been hooked ever since, although mainly for the modded servers, and now days the scripting. Now days I can't seem to find Soldat discussions on un soldat related forums at all, not that I visit many.

However due to the fact that there seems to be no plans for script core improvements after NSC quit, I might get bored with it finally and move on. Sorry for also including the answer that is for the opposite question but I figured knowing why people quit would be worthwhile, and it seemed a little short without it.

This is where I first found Soldat back in 2005. And they still have 1.2.1 up.

In 2004 (I was 11), bored, with a buddy (he was like 9) on a shitty laptop with wifi.

Hey, let's try to find a cool free game. Hours of googling "freeware multiplayer shooter" and found Soldat on the 4th page.

Addicted ever since.

The thing that players always wants to do is kicking someones ass. What's needed? Fucking account system with ranks, exp and achievments! You have got done form in KAG...

I started playing Soldat on my cousin's some very old computer when Soldat was very young. The fact is that me and my cousin couldn't play alone when we were starting. I mean I had to use mouse to shot and he was using keyboard to walk. That was funny :P

Anyone remember Little Fighter 2?
Well I used to play it and on one of it's fan made forums I've found about Soldat, I believe it was 1.1.5 or something and since then I never played Little Fighter 2 :/

And no, I'm not back, I'm just worried about soldat..

found it on a cd of a finnish computer magazine i got from a relative, it was in 2003. didn't really play it back then but kept it in mind.

i'm pretty sure most of the finnish players have found soldat the same way.

I was part of an LF2 + some other games forum, among the games are Soldat. At first I didn't give a damn, but I was encouraged by a great friend on that forum to try it out. I was impressed by the simplicity of Soldat and the fact its a shooter. Despite the few inactive moments I had, I would return to Soldat. Now life is taking its toll on me, my desire to play games has been on a sharp decline.

My friend showed it to me and I loved it. Also it was one of the games that could run smoothly on computers in my dorm.

I had a terrible old computer and I wanted to play multiplayer. Found a game called 'Stick Soldiers 2' and I downloaded it. I joined the forums there, and then I found out about a multiplayer game called soldat from those forums.

Played it, loved it, joined here.

I play this game since 1.3 or maybe a little before, my computer was crap so only played 2D games at this time (HDD 10gb, Nvidia TNT2, Win98 and 64mb ram xD).
I discovered it on N forums (N by metanet, the little flash game with the ninja, there wasn't N+ at this time), at the bottom of their forums there was a banner for Soldat, I had 56k connection and it took me 1h to download it. At first I played with bots because of my crappy internet, then I convicted my parents to pay an ADSL connection.
I haven't played for 2/3 years, I still play time to time and I still love this game so much, I think it was my first online game. I hope there will always be people playing it and I like the fact this game is not "user friendly" it will never be like a TF2 or League of Legends, filled with noobs and retards, sure there is some on Soldat too, but a really small amount compared to other online games.
I hope it helped.

Yeah I remember it, I played it too, still played time to time, but the online is shitty, still a good game :D

Back when I was big on emulated gaming, I wanted to see what freeware was about. This was solely between my Junior High School and High School years carried over into my Freshman year of college. Mid-high school, I found Soldat through some other site that hosted a ton of freeware games. By then it might have been in its infancy at 1.0.4. but it was my first game for an online community before arcade emulation. And I loved it.

What might have stifled me as a player was playing on a computer that could not keep up with workable frame rates. But I've been playing it on and off since then and I still play it. My only regrets are never finding time to get myself into a clan, only because I did not figure myself to be good enough, etc, and getting into Gather. I was shown how to get into it just last year but having not the time or attention span to learn, I forgot everything (just about) down to my password. I believe that I still remember my username there. I cannot say for sure, however.
