Soldat Mapping Colaboration
« on: February 14, 2012, 12:32:15 pm »
Summary,
Basically, you reserve a floor, or area space to work on, then you can do whatever you like to that space -- make it separate rooms, add large stacks of boxes, remove the window (access to fire escape), kitchens, change texture (multitexture in finish), laundry room, jungle etc. Then you upload your version of the map, I'll put all the floors together in the end.

So, call floors/spaces, and the deadline will be March 14th for finished floors. If not all of it is collaborated in a month, it'll be re-uploaded again and you can select remaining space another time.

Anyone is welcome to join.

I almost finished my part. I have to download tons of scenery packs to find some nice tables/chairs.
I added blue background and an ugly wall background just to visualize better. Someone must come with a better one.

I doubt this will be anyone near as good as the thing the mappers did years ago (the current active mappers suck aside from chakapoko and occasionally vtt) . I think it was Kamikazi duck or Grand Diablo or whoever did something just like this.

edit: yeah - http://forums.soldat.pl/index.php?topic=129.150
If you guys can't make it look as good as that map (see attached) don't bother because your failure will make Soldat's currently dead mapping seen look even more pathetic.

How does truth feel? None of the people in this thread are even a tenth of how good the contributors to that map were, and that was 6 years ago. The current mapping scene is a disgrace to Soldat.

No, not that. It just disappoints me that Soldat maps were better 5 years ago.

No not at all, they might have looked better in the map editor, however their playability arent better.

@jrgp: I'll thank you for reminding me of that collab. It will serve as inspiration. You see, the mapping scene isn't as active as before, even the gameplay isn't like before. Before we always had x5 matches and now is x3, etc... but we are what we are and mappers will reflect how the game is. Back in that time you had 15 slots that were filled. Today we are up to 6, maybe 7. I'll face your rage just against mapping SCENE, not mappers. With this we don't expect to look pathetic, we rather have fun and make something. Our aim is not make something as good or better as a collab from the past, we just want to map; this time together. May that be inspiration for us.

back on topic: do we have to make it as a real building? like... is it supposed to be realistic? can I add lava? I was going with the realistic option, I'll add some chairs and tables, etc

So you think you can play your veteran status card jrgp (edit: eh, felt negative earlier)

No not at all, they might have looked better in the map editor, however their playability arent better.

That map didn't have too great playability anyway (I have great respect for the mappers in it), not that this new one would cap it, but anything might have better gameplay than that old colab

my guess is jrgp failed to get laid. i don't understand why you are throwing shit at the current mappers as your mapping career was never very succesful.

the idea is great but are there enough active mappers to make it complete?
