Display speed meter and damage number
« on: March 24, 2012, 01:55:16 pm »
A speed meter, that shows current speed in soldats "speed units" (counting in the vector you're moving in).

A damage number displayed that shows how much damage your victim took from your shot. (possibility to switch between % and hp dmg).

.... or somehow allow for such modding.

Edit: fixed topic

I don't see why we need this. You can calculate them via soldatserverscripting and make the server show them if you really need to see them.

scripting is now allowed in clan wars...

why did you add accuracy stats when you can make scripts for that?

Speed meter's point (I think) is to help to perceive the right technique while you practice moving faster, this has been an essential feature in fast paced games like Quake.

I didn't they were there when I took over.

I suggested scripting because I'm not sure why it should be added.
You want to see numbers next to your/other players? Wouldn't that distract players?

no, just a number for people I hit... though, this is more of a "would be cool feature. However... I REALLY want a speed meter displayed somewhere (would be neat if it worked on demos/spectating players aswell).

I would sell my soul to the devil for that feature!

Exhunter used the script capabilities to display it in the !runmode servers.
Unfortunately, the numbers are imprecise because of the lags.
That's why I would die for a client-side speed meter!

Exactly! Something like quake3 , defrag, warsow. It would be so damn cool.

@Shoozza: Implementing this in Soldat would make me and my fellow "speed-freaks" players so happy!

Edit:

And the damage indications would be very valuable too!

I can understand the damage indicator. But I don't get why anyone would need a speed meter online. What would you get from that that you wouldn't get from looking at how fast your soldier is moving?

example would be, if I need a certain speed to pull off a poly boost. Without a speed meter I really have no idea if I'm going fast enough.

Do you drive car without speed meter because you can "look" how fast it goes?

People like to practice different things and running fast as possible is not an exception. Speed meter shows you if you accelerate or slow down, that will help you to maintain your pace and technique. It will also reveal your mistakes, what kind of move or spot slows you down. It's atleast on par with how useful damage indicator is, trust me.

but it's not a feature that you need in a casual gameplay, at least imo
Add a pool, perhaps?

Speed-meter:
Maybe something like in warsow: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dbXWOsJj6c0
( that you can toggle-on and off )

Imo it could be written is that little stats box (where it says your current position on leader board etc).

movement is nowhere near as important in soldat as it is in games like quake, hence i find the meter pretty useless as it can be scripted too.

What the hell?
Movement is Soldat and Soldat is movement.
There isn't any game out there that can reach the number of advanced tricks and movement glitchs that Soldat has to offer.
Even quake3 defrag.

yet you can dominate the game by only handling the basic bunny hopping. it's definitely something you cannot do in games like quake.

I sure do. I could tell by how every gear in my car feels, acts and sounds. But it's not at all the same thing as with Soldat as you say you want to travel as fast as possible, while on the road you need to travel at a very specific speed. What you want out of Soldat sounds more like parkour. Again, there your own ability to feel and judge the situation is your best gauge.

Playing an arcade action game to it's fullest should be intuitive, not require boring tools and number crunching.

* FalconPL agrees
That feature would be just useless, thus used by not many.
