this is gunna bother me when my own name appears with a (1) next to it, sad times.

pity people cant make up their own usernames sometimes aye!

The nicknames you choose in Soldat don't have to be.

when i made "some idiot with a gun" i thought it was unique because when i re-starts soldat after having like a 3/4 year break and was an absaloute noob and kinda still am.. not gunna change it to what i had before.. which was Sniper Legend - something that i am not any longer

Soldat has no global name register service.
There was one (NRservice or what it was called) but that is gone now and since we dropped the portal stuff there is no way to protect your nick (unless the server owner runs a custom script).

Or not. People like Soldat cause it's simple and straightforward.
No need to register an account, small download, no patches needed, ...
I'd say lets keep it simple.

Let's keep it old and unmodern, you say... Account system with some achievements and stats would make ppl playing more to conquer with other clans/players.

We had that a few years ago and everyone hated it. So no. Learning from past mistakes is a good thing.

Currently we need to clean up the code base and not pollute it with features which affect a lot of it.
I don't say accounts will never be added but they are a bad idea at this point of time.

However if they will be added then only if there is a good reason for it.
Adding them only because it seems like a good idea is not the right way

what if you (if possible and not that difficult) to have a little notification (like the ones you find on sites around the internet) where is says "username taken" or "username not taken" kinda thing?

although, come to think of it, I'm guessing that the server/soldat machine doesn't remember the username that people put in?

Lobby is albe to do that if someone joined some server...

Why would you need a notification saying someone has taken your nick when the person who's taken your nick isn't playing in the same servers as you do 24/7 , so i guess most of the time you'll be free to use your nick! and yeah this kind of things happened alot , dont worry people will recognize you for your personnality and not for your name

I suppose you do have a point, how ever when you are playing a game and you see someone with you your name, well, i got somewhat annoyed.. hence why I wouldnt mind the notification system - also how can someone recognise you for your "personality" within a game?!

I know many people that do share the same name , and when i greet him or say hello , he doesnt answer me or starts swearing at me when that happens i know for sure its not the real guy , and even you can recognize by the way someone talks that he's not the person you thought he was!
