Yeah, why is that?  Anyway, I play Jazz in my school band, so I've taken a liking to that, but I also like rock/punk music that has quality to it, not just a smothering of noise.

Now, I didn't select it (even if I do love some of it), but what is your definition of Heavy Metal?

The definition has changed (for the worse part) over the years. People are like "OMGWTF! Dimmu Borgir, System of a Down, and Slipknot are teh onleeeee hevy metul!!1 Durdurdurdur"

But, really. Extreme, Black Sabbath, and AC/DC (Yes, they are label'd metal) are the real metal. In the 70's, KISS was considered Heavy Metal. Slipknot is not real heavy metal.

So wtf? Do you mean TODAYS Heavy Metal, or REAL Heavy Metal?

Or you could venture out a bit more beyond the mainstream. Not that theres anything wrong with mainstream music, but limiting yourself to it is. Todays heavy metal is real heavy metal, same with the 70's bands.
