Mainstream stuff isn't always completely bad. But you need to be very open minded. People at my school look at me and somtimes tell me that I look like I listen to music that you would kill people to. However true or untrue this may appear to be, they are often shocked that I indeed listen to some Jazz and Classical. Both are extremely relaxing in my humble opinion. Truth be told I greatly enjoy Jazz and Classical alike, but I couldn't name more than a couple artists.
