Spawn flags facing each others
« on: April 29, 2012, 06:55:51 am »
So, currently the flags spawn facing the same direction... Like this:
This results in maps being imbalanced, as it's it's collision depends on which way it's facing.

Instead the flags should spawn facing towards each others... Like this:
Because then one team will never have an advantage over the other, due to them acting the same.

I really don't think that you're right. Flag is just a graphic. You can remake it to be a sitting puppy instead, or a rolling ball, game won't care.

My friend. Our eyes are easily deceived. You think you can snap the flag up from a shorter distance when the flag is pointing away from you, but the truth is that it's not the tip of the flag that that counts, it's the bottom.
It's an optical illusion like this: Are the two lines the same length? http://www.kip.zcu.cz/kursy/svt/texty/ILUZE/ARROWS40.GIF

The distence from the bottom of the flag to your guy is about 20 pixels nomather wich way the flag points.

Not talking about the distance for grabbing, but boosting.

ctf_Blade is a prime example on how much of an advantage one side has because of the how the flags currently spawn.
Stats for SCTFL 20 on this map is 95 - 69 to bravo. Personally I'd say the advantage is more or less 2 caps worth. Meaning, I'd consider it a fair match if Alpha starts out with 2 points (scorelimit 10).

The same goes for pretty much every other mirrored map, where one side has a huge or minor advantage over the other.

Dear ginn. Let's put the map stats aside. Start a local CTF game, and try to boost the flag from both sides. Both work, I tried it myself.

regarding to the sctfl stats page the average amount of caps per round on ctf_Blade is 4.4 for alpha and 5.36 for bravo.

Right, because you're usually playing in LAN (or are you even suggesting offline?).

Though, most matches end up with about 6 caps per side... at least in my experience.

People do care, you always pick bravo because bravos flag is next to impossible to spray low.

I'm not usually playing through LAN or offline, but the game behaves the same way in this meaning.
You can as well join a random CTF server and try it out.

I know what you're talking about with "spraying low", but from both sides you cannot boost the flag shooting only little above the ground.

the red flag drops after just 3-4 bullets on Blade, where as the bravo flag needs something around 10.
