Devlog update (2012-07-23) Absolutely nothing happened
« on: July 23, 2012, 01:25:28 pm »
Hi everyone,

I just noticed no one posted a new devlog so I decided to do it.

There was no activity the last 7 days.

Falcon told me that he is working on some scriptcore changes.
Mainly making the scripts more delphi like and some other stuff.
I don't want to write too much as it's not ready yet and might change.

I'm currently on vacation and will return next month. So don't expect any updates from me this month.

Besides that the SCTFL guys told us that we should avoid releasing the next version while it is taking place.
So we could release the next version before or after the SCTFL but I think we will release it after it as some stuff are not ready and we need some testing.

why don't you release it before the next sctfl and leave the unfinished stuff for later? there's no reason to hold the ready parts back.

There are two reasons:
New Soldatserver will be build with a different compiler which means we need serverhosts to test it
The new updater needs to be finished and tested

Besides that updates still require more work than they should. With the new updater it should be easier in the future that's why I want to have it in the next version.

@Shoozza, if you'll need someone to host servers - remember I can always do it. Just leave me a message when you'll need my help.

New version before SCTFL would be mandatory IMO, for obvious reasons of malicious players tryig to ruin the fair game for everyone. This definitely is a real problem for SCTFL(and affects everyone participating in SCTFL games), and as such I'd love to devs actually cooperating with SCTFL staff more with this.

releasing before the next sctfl should be the best option

I'll try to remember it once the beta is ready.

I actually planned a client only updater. But I guess making it work for server and client wouldn't be that bad.

If we release stuff before the SCTFL it has to work for all players which means we need some testing time. It would be bad if some players couldn't play in the SCTFL because of bugs.

There was one but we don't have the sourcecode for it.
