I was reminded in Elite Snipe & Slice what happens when a DM map is chosen for a CTF game -- random flag spawns! This is lots of fun having to chase the flag, never knowing when it'll appear, not having easy camp spots or whatnot. The only problem is that it is near impossible to score, since the game is more a crapshoot when it decides that the FC can return the flag for a score and not just warp the friendly flag elsewhere.

This would be an easy mode to implement since everything is in the game -- just make it so that when the FFC returns the EF to his own FF, a score is recorded and both flags respawn elsewhere. It'd use existing DM maps pretty much, so it wouldn't require any real effort to get it up and running. Communication and the random flag locations would make this great. Spot your flag? Message the team to its location to defend while others look for the enemy flag. Got the enemy flag? Let your team know you're looking for the score to protect and help.

Ya i know when some n00bs on ctf servers vote for dm maps and  ir actually turnas up pretty confusing , but good practice  for your skills an reflexes

Actually, not as easy as you may think. If the flags are to appear at TOTALLY random positons (not at any spawnpoints whatsoever), then it would be pretty hard to get a smooth gameplay. What if the flag spawns inside a polygon? What if the flag spawns outside an map edge polygon? And so on...

What's so bad about it? As it is, non-CTF maps can be voted on for CTF games. This produces the effect I outlined above. If anything, this would be more of a bug fix of sorts, since scoring is so wonky when playing a non-CTF map.

Or maybe we could have a crapload of possible spawning points.

I agree with all of you and fluffy's idea.  The question is whether or not multiple spawning points would create random spawning, or if it's even possible to do so.
To sum up my point: We had a multipage debate about toilet padding. (Putting TP in the water so you don't get splashed.)
And we still don't know if dead guys can keep a stiffy.

The flag shouldn't spawn outside, can't it only spawn where this is a spawn point, so wouldn't they end up where Soldatens spawn themselves?

This is basically Teammatch with only 2 teams, and flags popping up everywhere/occassional capping. :P

What is bad is that it would just be another annoying gamemode that nobody will play, it doesn't even deserve it's own gamemode if you can emulate it so easily.

Exactly, it wouldn't be a whole new mode per se, just fixing the scoring code so that non-CTF maps remain playable. I really don't know why it changes like that since the effect is the same -- grab enemy flag, touch your own, and score. I suppose it's just the lack of a stable spawn point, but it wouldn't be too difficult I think to have the game identify if the map has a designated flag spawn point and, if not, randomly place it as it doesn't now per "return." Maybe the game could even just identify maps with "ctf_" being the current base kind and anything else being open and random.

this'd be really..Interesting...when your running over a map lie run or b2b, never knowing when the flag is guna spawn or where, it'd be really funny to watch ppl trying to camp and wait for the flag, but it never comes :), I like the idea :P

why haven't they made a game mode where it just combines the game types randomly?

SO one time it's CTF the other it's DM next its a TM.
