Arena4 - Now in Stage 2 of Production!

I've finished stage 1 of making my version of an arena map. I've done all the polygon work as well as all the shading and texture work.

I'm asking for the community's input on how the map looks and feels. Does it have consistent stylings like the original Arena all throughout it? What parts look like they could use some reworking to achieve the Marcinkowski look?

I'll attach the file soon if any of you wanna look at it in Polyworks.

And there have been plenty of "arena4" maps. Maybe i'll come up with a new name for this if need be.

EDIT: The black dot is a gostek :)

UPDATE: Finished scenery, texture tweaking, redid some polygons, Edited background and reverted to banana.bmp for texture. Also darkened the lower polygons more.

Now all i need is a waypointer to help me out :D

looks good, seems way too much like regular arena though(layout wise). otherwise its good imo. maybe some quick transitions of shading would help, it seems almost too smooth from the screen shot.

Make the lower background color a bit darker, and make the lower half of the polygons darker. Michal did this in arena and cambodia, in which both resulted in a great style.

Use the banana texture perhaps?

De-perfect the vertex placement. Push some polys into others a bit, to give it that "feel."

Cool, i was going for the original Arena feel.

The texture i used is an inversion of banana.... I was wondering if i should keep it or swap back to banana.

And I'll try making the lower bit darker and update the screen when i do :)

From what i see theres a bit too much free space there, and they look a little pointy (the polygons). Otherwise  like it!

"The black dot," lmao xD Dude, that thing is humongous! You could split it in vertical half and each side could be an arena of its own (and would still need condensation) :o

As for aesthetics... nice. The bridge at the bottom looks like crap, tho' (kinda resembles a DNA double-helix), and the ramp at the central-top of the middle boulder which looks like half-life should have another tiny layer of polygonal shading. Like the bottom-right part of the largest boulder to the right (and even for that, undershade its top-right section, too).

The bridge has been slightly spiffied up. With added scenery it looks much nicer.

I replaced the big white island at the bottom with a tunnel, which works well. The gameplay will have more variety with more tight/open spaces mixed.

I've begun scenery placement.

True.  I wouldn't want to play on a DM map this big.

I could always shave a bit off. The left hand side has been pissing me off, it clashes with the rest of the map... I don't think orange is a good color for it.

This kind of criticism is helpful, keep it coming.

Try clashing colors over there more, like the left side of Arena, and possibly even modify likewise the right instead of making it all green and flat (well, that's what it would be without those shades of gray added).

Aww, I liked the huegness...

As for the far left circle, add another support to it, and to the same for the island directly under it (it's about the same size).

Can you name it something different from arena4 though, like arena44 or something? There's already a map with this name.

There's already like 50 maps with that name :P

I'll come up with something more original.

Oo. What a big map! But i think it is good, and you dont need to fix it. But take care about waypoints its very important part of map!

This map reminds me of your old "Chaos" map... :]

Edit: You should at least release this map in your "Map Scrapyard" topic, I think it's worth it.

All of the original arena maps weren't really color coordinated, your map has the same color them throughout.
