Climb server dies randomly
« on: July 26, 2013, 06:51:58 am »
My climb server dies randomly throughout the day after the update. There are no errors whatsoever displayed at the time/before crash. Server died 14 times just today

All maps extensions are .pms
Scripts were tuned up to fit this new pascal thingy

Logs from crashes:

Are you running your servers with -d? Cause I had similar issue and turning off deamon mode and running server through the screen command solved it.
Also, if you turn off the safe mode try to switch it back on and see if that helps.

Well, then I'm out of ideas :) Talk to Falcon on IRC (http://webchat.quakenet.org/?channels=#soldat.devs), maybe he'll figure something out.

Yea I'm there constantly and already spoke to him, he also mentioned something about daemon mode, hence this topic. So this is last resort, maybe some of the forum users will know what may be causing it

More info:
Server dies each time after it loads a specific map, for example ctf_wh_geometry.

same problem, i disabled scripting on one of them and it still crashes so that's not the case

it seemed like there's a pattern:

http://pastebin.com/g59TwmPf

but the server that isn't even used (and has only 1 map in the loop) crashes for no apparent reason (this is the one without scripting):

http://pastebin.com/td5usQcx

the servers use custom maps (cs/de), but the crashes not always occure on map change

You dont use any whoizall script right?

I've had similar problems with whoizall scripts
For signatures, you are allowed only one image in your signature which may not be wider and taller than 300 and 125 pixels, and may not be over 20kB in file size. No BMPs are allowed.

I have to report similar problem. I'm running 2 servers, one with my own RPG mod and second with ski jumping script. The RPG one always had a tendency for random crashes without any errors but most ppl say it was normal for big script to sometimes crash the server. It wasn't that big of a deal since crashes only happened like 2-3 times a day. But now, after upgrading to 2.7.4 servers shut down almost every 30-45min and not only RPG but the ski jump one too, which never happened before. There's no errors, there's not even info about shutting down, server just dies. What I noticed is that the server never crashes when it's empty, only when there's at least 1 player playing and it usually happens after map change or player leaves.

Does it happen on a specific map?

Well, yeah it did often happen on specific maps (ctf_Viet for instance) but even after deleting them the crashes still occur.

which skijumping script are you using? is it the one I wrote a long time ago?
because I havent noticed any crashes on my skijumping server.

Yes, the same.
I've already done some testing with Falcon and it might be related to the built-in file server.
I'll test it more in the next couple of days.

We got rid of this problem when using legacy for linux but several scripts stopped working. Anyway I'm having problems with random crashes of CTF servers now. Can't even run debug mode as they crash when I add it to parameteres and restart the server. Server starts but shuts down after a short while.

Basing on falcons suggestion we introduced external file server (http://forums.soldat.pl/index.php?topic=40104.msg492665#msg492665). When it's working properly there are no crashes, however when it stops working you are unable to download a map. And sometimes it even freezes your soldat on join attempt. I wish devs would seriously look into that ASAP.

errorlog:
Code: [Select]
[main/select] ignoring error: [Errno 9] Bad file descriptor [main/select] ignoring error: [Errno 9] Bad file descriptor
screen:

What stops working? File server or soldat server?
