Automatic reloading for the Spas
« on: July 27, 2013, 07:40:03 pm »
Now that there's no need to worry about broken aim while reloading, it would be pretty logical to have the gun reload automatically if it's not full already.

Those who voted against, please tell us why. I can't think of a single reason to support your view.

That would be one less key to hold constantly. Good idea.

Why did we make that change in the first place? I remember it was reloading automatically in the past. Was it because of the reload bug?

It starts reloading after you've fired the last shell. I don't recall it happening in other situations in the past either.

Spas together with ruger are already way too strong, no point in making spas better. Also, all you have to do is click reload when you need to reload... instead of holding it all the time.

If anything it would nerf it. Since you wouldn't be able to shot as fast as you could when not reloading.

That depends on your playstyle. If you're using lots of prones, prone cancels, rolls, backflips and cannon balls, you do have to hold it all the time. Every millisecond of reload time is precious.

I dont think an automatic reload is making weapon more powerfull, it just makes it somewhat easier for the player, So see it as something which just makes it more user friendly I guess.

edit: shouldn't this be in weapon balance discussions

For signatures, you are allowed only one image in your signature which may not be wider and taller than 300 and 125 pixels, and may not be over 20kB in file size. No BMPs are allowed.

How would this make the Spas any stronger than it is currently, could you explain your view? People are spamming their reload keys like there's no tomorrow anyway and with the right key placement, it doesn't affect your playing at all.

instant reload instead of a slight delay... might be the difference between having time to reload before it gets canceled or not.

I am aware, which is kind of why it shouldn't be automated... because it becomes too strong that way. I was used to reload after every time I didn't need to shoot and tap nade every time to cancel the reload animation, it's just another thing to get used to.

It's exactly the same as holding the reload button down, I don't see a problem here. Also the fire interval is always modifiable and if it was automatic, everyone would be equal.

Well Dusty. You just summarized in these 2 little sentences my opinion about this. And why I voted yes.
Spot on!

It's not the same thing, if it's automatic you there's no timing to pressing reload. Or, can you still just hold reload for it to reload, wasn't that issue fixed? If that isn't fixed, then it should be fixed, rather than making everyone automatically reload.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by this. If you hold down the reload key and fire a couple of times, the gun will reload automatically, that's how it works in both 1.6.3 amd 1.6.4. Are you saying this is how it should be or that this should be fixed so that you'd have to press reload after every shot you take?

I mean that you should have to press reload every time you want to start reloading, not just hold reload and have it automatically reload whenever you're not shooting.

Hmm, I think strategizing the reloading should be a part of using the weapon proficiently. That's kinda half the point of it's unique reload mechanic. I'd rather "punish" people who are unprecariously holding down their reload key when using Spas, so that when they press fire the gun won't fire until the currently fed shell is completely inserted, adding a small delay.

If it's made intentionally like the way you're saying, the reloading being a part of the weapon.. i might reconsider my vote from yes to no

Why must there be such punishment anyway? Don't you think it makes using the gun just more complicated and hinders down things that matter more, such as aiming and proper positioning. Compared to these two I find "strategic reloading" pretty damn insignificant part of the gun.

Besides I don't even see it as a punishment but as an unneeded nuisance, because you can drop the whole team with a fully loaded gun, not even mentioning 1v1 situations. When it comes to boosting around, shooting faster is only a slight bonus and situations where that makes the difference instead of other movements, dodging and how you played the situation before are nonexistent.

Automatic reloading would make it easier to run with it though... Though, the wm sort of promotes more camping, so I dunno where things are going.

Easier yes, but by how much? The change in overall gameplay, both combat and movement, I believe would be insignificant only making the mechanics nicer and more straight-forward.
