CoH Found Download!
« on: August 23, 2006, 08:19:01 am »
Okay, first of all its made by THQ and Relic. My two favorite game creators/publishers. They created Dawn of War, The Outfit, soon Saints Row and a bit later Company of Heroes.

As you might have guessed from the name this game is set during the Second World War. You have the lead Able Company to victory and Berlin and all of that anti-nazi stuff.
Anyway. This game is a lot like Dawn of War, squads replenish, they rush into cover and stretgic points still give resources.
However they have made this far better by using the Havoc 3 Physics Engine which lets the whole map become destrutible. Create cover for your infantry by blowing craters up with mortar teams. Flush out garrinsoed troops by just blowing the whole building up.

There is a pre-release beta out which lets you do the tutorial and 2 missions (more like 1.5)
However at the moment the beta is very demanding (1gb RAM, 3.0Ghz processor) but when the game is released the requirements will lower down to 512mb RAM and maybe 2.4Ghz processor.

Another bonus is if you pre-order it from Amazn or Play.com you recieve Dawn of War, Dawn of War: WInter Assault and the demo of the upcoming dawn fo war (dark crusade) all free.
So its 3.5 games for the price of one (£25)

I reccommemd you guys to try the game out.

Points which are simply lovely:
Enviroment is destructible. You don't shoot some barrels and they blow up, they fall to pieces depending on where they are shot.
Artillery strikes are beautiful and big and...destructive
AI is really nice (some scripting obvisouly) but its still good.
Tanks have different armour plating on different areas (target the back)
Real strategy is needed, not pure mass attack. Flanking and hit&run tatcics are needed. Mass attack neevr hurts though :P

Get beta from here:
http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?t=103542

You might read in the forums about the multiplayer beta. Its closed now. I missed it as well :'(
Only the singleplayer one is avaliable.

Isn't anyone else going to check it out?

Added point of interest to first post.

I would check it out, but my computer can't handle it. It sounds like insane fun though, all the Relic games are.

Nope, only a 2ghz on my computer, plus I use integrated graphics, so the installation screen probably won't even work.

Its really big for a beta. Totally worth it.
I just played it again. I was planting my defences for the assult as I thought I knew what would happen. The AI instead attacked from my unprotected side so I lost a quite few troops while I was rotating my AT guns and machine guns.
Just as a warning. Be prepared for dirty tricks.

Yeah! I've been following this game a little while. I really look forward to it. I hope the gameplay will be in between Close Combat and a regular RTS. Downloading the demo, so let's see.

It sort of is. Its quciker than Close Combat but I don't think as fast paced as some other RTS'.
It involves far more tactics than the regular RTS but again, not as much as Close Combat.
So, yeah I think it is a balance in between the two. Try the beta if you can.

Hahaha. :D Same here. :P

I really loved the tactics in Close Combat, I'm glad to hear that there will be tactics involved in this game too instead of just blindly rushing the enemy.

The patch?
The patches are for the multiplayer versions, which are now sold out. The download is as is and should work fine. No updates for that.
A four year old has been offline for quite some time. I guess he likes the game :D
