My first map! Help needed!
« on: March 06, 2014, 05:04:09 pm »
My first evermade map: ctf_IceMountain
Map Type: ctf/Climb
Author: Drax
Compiled/tested: Every jump is possible to make.
Lvl of the map: hmm Idk...

I do not know how to shade at all, don't send me to forum tutorial, it didn't make it clear enough how to do it + I don't see most of the pictures there, Idk why...
Do you have any suggestion how to shade this mountain? Can someone teach me or make a full Soldat polyworks guide but youtube video! Also I would like 3D look... something like here...

can anyone help me with it? Please!

also if you will look closer on the map there is delta team spawn and at the end of igloo there is a line, that is the end of igloo_scenery, although the background is all green(255) it's still there, can someone tell me how to fix it or do it for me??

Why is it that the first two pictures look completely different? I'm pleasantly surprised at the first screenshot as it looks not too bad, despite missing the texture, but the second screenshot doesn't look that great.

Hopefully there are some tutorials still around that aren't completely full of linkrot. You'll need to do some sleuthing around.
There are other worlds than these

you can use .png file with transparency instead of lime color

and about 3D look:

This screen is from Mod that change textures and edges for polygons(and other graphics).

And if you want to make such 3D-like effect you need to make map with edge to edge connections for polygons:

and then sett different colors for upper part(light colors) and lower part(darker colors) so its look like snow on ground. Use Vertex Colour Tool in PolyWorks for that.

without tech talk: png is something like better bmp :]

its graphic format that is in my opinion one of the best.
And with app's like PNGOUT you can change their size to almost like jpg(from 900KB to 200-300KB) without loosing transparency and quality.

Select polygon,
choose color in palette window,
use Vertex Colour Tool or Colour Polygons Tool.

You need to have minimum sense of colors and shading to do it, so we cant help you with that. If you dont know that you need to learn it by your self

For now I dont have too much time, but if you upload your map here, I could modify part of it so you could see how it would looks like.
