the reason it is like that is because if nothing would be displayed, you could easily cheat by removing bushes and what not and see ppl hiding.

so add smaller graphic or something, because sometimes its small scenery but if you dont have it you get huge black square.

Beside Its better to see camper and get rid of him than have camper that sit for 10min in the same spot and annoy everyone because he cant move his ass to play normally

Camping is a valid strategy, a flawed one but still very valid.

so we better have huge ass black square that cover loots of map and camper behind it... OK

As I said you could add small graphic or fixed size black square(similar size to crouching player).

Everyone can do that and there's nothing we can do about it, unless it's specifically explained in league rules for example. I've been playing without bushes for many years and it feels nice

Im chill like that

its impossible for the game to know how big a missing scenery is the only thing the pms file tells it is how much it is scaled. so while in the bushes analogy its probably bigger then the bush, this is a general replacement for all scenery and not just bushes so there is no one size fits all solution.

If I can simply color bushes light green and they will no longer be displayed I'd say it's a tweak rather than a cheat ;p

Same analogy could be said about running a aimbot then.

dont compare cheats like aimbot to modding game. I have 2x size barrett bullets and bigger nades so i see better where they land, and I can assure you that most of player mod they graphic. is normal.

if you remove bushes you get an advantage to ppl who dont remove them, you also remove a dimension of the game ie hiding. Its the equivalent of running wallhack in CS, dont see ppl arguing that is normal in CS.

I am a climber so my suggestion was caused by very often problems on thousands of maps which are played daily on climb server. I was so angry on some maps where I couldn't find way to flag because of black squares so I decided to delete missing sceneries from them. But I realized that it's waste of time to fix all these maps. So that's way I wrote this suggestion.

How about at least making the black box "middle" instead of "front"? This way enemies behind the removed bushes still would be invisible, but they won't cover the poligons, so at least you could see where to go in these cases kici mentioned.

Nice. That solves the issue.

I'm against the complete removal of the black squares.

Not because of the cheating issue.
People who wants to cheat just make the sceneries green anyway. (And no please don't fix that. Most people change their sceneries in a legit fashion by skinning their sceneries for aesthetics. Browse the mods on this forum and you'll see it's very popular.)

But because it's a "right in your face" indication that you're missing a scenery. Which is handy and also encourage you to fix the issue by acquiring the missing scenery.

Viral's solution is the best way to go about the issue.

Also kicikici, next time don't put a poll right away. Wait for feedback to get some other creative solutions like viral's one. Once brainstorming has taken place for a reasonable time, then only it's meaningful to add a poll.

I would agree with zakath on this one, else it is way to easy to abuse it. What bonecrusher & akinaro have highlighted is already very hard to catch unless the player is stupid enough to post his screenshot in a match report... but you would get banned if caught in any competitive Soldat league I know of.

A good portion of the competitive players in soldat are using or have used hacks in the past. And you worry about sceneries?
Come on don't break modding just for this.

Btw the displaying of missing gostek- and weapons-gfx could get changed to only first time if game starts and not everytime you come in the main menu. Its very annoying because some weapons or gostek-gfx (wich i downloaded here for my team2 and weapons changer) no need all files like a kap or a shell.

I think the black rectangles are ok, if you are missing scenery you should know it.
Hiding things will make it harder for mappers to find and fix missing sceneries.

I don't see how a black square ruins modding, as shoozza has pointed out it makes sure the player is aware he is missing a scenery and can go fix it. How does a black square break modding?

I thought you were implying that it should be made impossible to customize sceneries. I misunderstood.

maybe instead of black, you could use semitransparent?
and with text?
It doesn't cover map so much, and text is enough annoying to fix lost graphic, so we have 50/50 of current ideas.
I know that game stretch graphic, but still it would be semitransparent and in smaller sceneries text would made it even darker.

[Example with text and 70% black transparent.]

Nice idea. Combine it with Viral's one. And it should make the life of climbers missing sceneries a lot easier.
