Greatest science fiction stories.....
« on: August 25, 2006, 01:28:41 am »
LETS MAKE LISTS!

Ok so in order i'll list my favourtie science fiction stories. It can be movies, books, comic books, games, anything.....So my top 10 are:

1. Ender's Game series
Haven't read children of the mind but I know the story anywho. Great series, my favourite. These are the only books I've read over twice. If you don't read books, just read this outta interest. Large amount of books, and there's actually a series which is based on Enders "friend" Bean......never read it though. Movie might come out in 2007, or 2008 as I heard.

2. Mobile suit Gundam
Excluding Street Fighter thingy and X which I'm not interested in, the Mobile suit Gundam saga is excellent. All the universes revolve around a war between the colonies and earth, except for Turn A, and the usage of large war machines called Mobile suits. They aren't super robots, with special powers and are invincible, they are tools, used for war. The stars of the show aren't the mecha, but the characters themselves. Seriously lousy animation because it's from the late 70's, but great plot. 08th MS team would be my favourite part in the U.C. storyline. It shows what grunts do. And plus it's made in the 90's, which the animation doesn't suck.

3. STAR WARS!1211ONETHOUSAND
K it's Starwars, Spanning over 20 years, shows the fall of a republic, rise of an empire, then the rebels that kick there ass, and then get their asses kicked. Why am I explaining this too you, shame on you if you don't already know what I'm talking about.

4. Dune
Yeah, I finally read the book. The movie was crap. Enjoyed the book. Tells the story of Paul Atreides, or Paul M'uadib, and how he does revenge how it should be done. Raise an army of people who live in the vast desert of Arrakis, drink their piss for moisture (not exactly :P), and ride giant sandworms which eat anything. Then avenge your father. I'm joking around. It's a classic.

5. Neon Genises Evangelion
Yeah it's a little messed, but still amazing. Great quality animation. So anyways it's in a post-apocalyptic setting, in japan like most anime >_>. Yes there are mecha, but there not really mecha. I'm not really into explaining stuff but still you can google stuff. Stories a little confusing, but it makes sense after a little while even though some things are unexplained. It focuses around the pilots of Evangelions, and their problems. A little controversial, but meh. O yeah there making a live action movie also....

6. Homeworld.....
What? Yes it's a copy of Battlestar galactica except this is more interesting :)
and it's a game. Tells the story of the Kushan people. Start's on the desert planet Kharak, 4000 years after they were exiled from there true homeworld. So anyways the exiles forget there origins, and find this ancient starship under alot of sand in the desert. In the ancient starship they find a hyperspace core, and a tablet with a word even more ancient then the clans themselves.... Hiigara....Home..... So after 150 years, they unite and build a large Ship, which is to be used to transport 600,000 colonists to there Homeworld. They activate there Hyperdrive to begin tests, and jump within there solar system. They become under attack, so they return to Kharak and find.....It's burning. Millions of people dead, just because they disobeyed a long forgotten treaty not to use hyperspace travel. The ancient Taidanni empire did this, and now the Kushan are pissed. You feel their pain, and you help them fullfil there destiny in reconquering there Homeworld. Plus you get to capture some Cruisers on the way.

7. Battlestar Galactica
I like the new one better! Great how BG doesn't suck anymore :D

8. Firefly
Just because.....

9. Matrix....

10. Power rangers.

Perhaps HHGTTG, but not I, Robot.

Hrm, hrm... From Wikipedia:

Quote
I, Robot is a collection of nine science fiction short stories by Isaac Asimov, first published by Gnome Press in 1950. The stories originally appeared in the magazines Super Science Stories and Astounding Science Fiction between 1940 and 1950. Though the stories work well enough individually, they share a theme of the interaction of humans, robots and morality, and when combined they tell a larger story of Asimov's fictional history of robotics.

I see no one has ever read "Battlefield Earth", which IMO is the best book ever written (and don't assume it sucks because you saw the movie).
Gamer_2k4

Only anime shows I've felt any interest in over the years are Pokemon (original TV series) and various hentai.
so clearly jgrp is a goddamn anime connoisseur. his opinion might as well be law here.

The Dune movie was ...so weird. You'd think a movie with Patrick Stewart, Sting, and that bloke that was in Quantum Leap would be watchable .....but it isn't.
