The game is pretty dead, around 10-50 players playing on pub servers.
Gathers are still alive, but if you're a new player you probably won't enjoy those.

There's like 100 players every evening (CET). Besides, why would you require anymore than that? I never had a problem to find a free slot on Zabijaka severs where plenty of people play normal mode.

That's really cool. I actually made something similar to try out a time series database. Wish we went back years into the past though so we could see year over year metrics.

Well, the main origin of the problem is that veteran players just... grew up. I mean at my age it's quite embarassing to play videogames (especially side-scrolling 2D actions like Soldat), so there's nothing wrong with the game. As for attracting new players, there's a great field of gaming choice these days, so It'll be rather difficult.

Hi Geodude! Well at least we can improve the game as much as we can. You never know when Soldat will become a thing again, maybe someone make a really cool soldat video that goes viral and all of a sudden we have a thousand more players. Or maybe when the dust settles from all these new indie games that you think is cool but really not play longer than a month, maybe then people will look for something solid, something that has been around for longer and has spent it's sweet time tweaking and fixing stuff to perfection.

I'd say the reason for the downfall was the lack of an automatic downloader whenever a new version came out.

Whenever a new version came out after 1.2.1, player number dropped.

OBS (streaming software) is similar to Soldat's update process. Whenever there's an OBS update, I just ignore it cause you have to visit their website and redownload everything all over again manually. Messes up your settings, config etc.

As long as the download were automated and quick, I wouldn't care about losing my settings, config, mods, etc.

I can't find any players either. Somehow I think of some weird control freak thinking it's better to not have players and hope for us all adding bots to the servers.
