Soldat Realistic Counter Strike Maps
« on: December 01, 2016, 08:55:06 am »
Hello,
Recently RSCS server was moved to 1.7.1, and it started to be active again, and there are plans of a 2v2 league soon.
Problem is, after the HD update, maps aren't same as before, 50% of maps are so bugged, I think its a texture problem.
Huge boxes, barrels, everything, big squares blocking vision everywhere, weird sun beams.

I don't know if developers know about it, but I hope it'd be fixed soon if possible :)

here is how it looks like,

It is like this, because someone recompiled a map on the newer version, where HD sceneries are present and that caoused this upscaling. Try to find these maps somewhere in soldat maparchieve and don't touch it

So an admin can fix it?

Turns out my "solution" to the issue doesn't work :/ I think the only way is to actually select each upscaled scenery (in PolyWorks click "W" to switch to selecting tool, then LPM on a scenery, when its selected hit "A" button to switch to another tool and then while holding CTRL use LPM on one of the scenery's outline rectanlges to scale the polygon)

1. ctf_de_aztec
2. ctf_cs_italy
3. ctf_de_piranesi
4. ctf_de_chateau
5. ctf_cs_oilrig
6. ctf_de_nuke
7. ctf_cs_militia
8. ctf_cs_assault

ctf_de_Aztec
ctf_de_nuke
ctf_cs_Havana
ctf_cs_submarine
ctf_cs_container
ctf_de_church
ctf_de_office2
ctf_de_Arizona
ctf_de_celtic
ctf_cs_cinema

All these maps have no issues

ctf_de_dust should have highest priority since its the most played map, though its only problem is the sun.

I recently embarked upon the project of restoring these maps.

I heavily underestimated the work that needs to be done. Largely due to the issue that Viral mentioned where recompiling maps causes more problems than what was initially there.

e.g. Open ctf_de_breed2 in Soldat = 1 bugged scenery. Open this map up in PolyWorks & it makes the situation a LOT worse, with a great many sceneries being resized. This effect is not unique to this map. And if that wasn't enough some scenery files seem to have been altered. The map looks for a .bmp but file is actually a .png - which displays as a corrupted file in PolyWorks. Somehow Soldat still detects and displays these files correctly but it's a pain when in PolyWorks.. much window swapping!

I don't want my time spent on this to be in vain but I'm also now very aware of how labour intensive this project is.

My knowledge of these maps is pretty poor and it isn't always obvious how these sceneries should be positioned (without going between Soldat screen & PolyWorks screen a billion times over). Also, PolyWorks does not make it easy for you to select each individual scenery when they are all layered on top of one another.

In short, this is being worked on but it is going to take a while. I will do my best to restore these maps as faithfully as I can but I can't guarantee that they will all be 100% as they were. If anyone has any advice which might help speed up the process or is willing to offer some of their time to spread the workload then that would be great.

I would wait for a better Polyworks, I assume it has to come because it's needed to revitalize the game

I'm not confident we'll see a full-featured Polyworks equivalent within a year.

What if you just resized the 1 bugged scenery? I mean not in polyworks, just image edit the scenery then don't touch the map?

Here are the maps I managed to restore, if anyone is still interested.
Removed the background camo-net texture AVARAX used for most maps because the texture looks stretched and ugly, I guess he used it to make the background look layered and shaded. The rest should be 99.99% faithful to what they were before, I tried my best.

An attachment works perfectly for me.
