Ok, I'd like new gui, new graphics with all dem cool lights, shadows and detailed models, anticheat, matchmaking.
Please fix netcode, fatass bug, specbug, eats n magnets.
Bring powerthrow back and dragonflies if you'd be so kind.

gui, netcode fix, anticheat, matchmaking, graphics improvement, new maps..  steam after 1.8 nothing to attract new players now.

Good ideas. And also i would like to see new chat features such as opening links in browser or cursor, multitypes for polygons, paralax background, single player campaign for newcomers and better new player experience.

There is not much time for huge changes so my suggestion is to:
- remove useless and ugly maps (Petter and other guys from soldat map team used to work on it a few months ago)
- remake others with new sceneries/textures and add new GUI (if Monsteri is able to finish his work)
- add somewhere a banner which would refer to SCTFL site and Discord channel

A weapon mode (normal) that doesn't tell you to "go fuck yourself, use a damn barrett becasue AK is RIPped".

Another thing is anticheat but I doubt it could be developed by December. We didn't have it for years.

Focus on getting the steam release done. You guys (probably) know better than we do what major issues need to be resolved before that's a possibility and what significant "improvement areas" exist in the current code. Do what you can, and please don't exhaust yourselves. It'd be nice if you kept making progress toward the "big" changes (netcode, GUI, art revision, maps, etc) in the next few months, but I don't expect them to be done by 1.7.2's release. I personally haven't encountered any critical problems that have prevented me from playing the game, so I'm not sure what else to recommend.

Soldat is way too simple to really require that. A link to a video on YouTube that introduces to the basics of Soldat would be enough and too much at once.

Bugfix:

Shirt color team-change bug (a guy switches teams and his shirt stays the same color as the previous team).

Fists on teammates: make it conditional on FF only. What happens is that I stop a team member from shooting because I "activate" the fists weapon.

Barrett is too powerful (too small bink, too short trigger, too fast reload) and destroys CTF mode because everyone playing only barrett. Typical "over-power" weapon. It is very frustrating. Can not balance it?

In 1.4.2 version barrett M82A1 was perfect.

Rollback to "pixel" graphics, I think it was way easier to make maps and mods when the graphics weren't HD (or at least an option for people to get old graphics in the settings? I think the game being able to run on a toaster is very important and can only bring more people)

As mentionned by other people a matchmaking system would be great, maybe some sort of progression that doesn't give any advantage?
This system would also allow "noob" players to play together without getting destroyed by veteran players as soon as they spawn (I think a lot of people tried the game but quit because of that)
Some ranked / integrated gather system would be awesome!

Anti cheat is important I think

A way to get the community more involved and keeping the game alive in the long term is also very important

I think a few "official" servers would be great, I've seen many servers over the years being considered as the standard (zabijaka for example) it would be great to have a place to drop for people that don't know much about servers and weapon, etc...

Please for the love of god, don't make the game too noobfriendly, I think it's a very difficult balance and that might have been what made the game die over the years but the core of this community is made of people who love the orignal game and Soldat being too userfriendly wouldn't be Soldat imo

Someone mentionned a solo campain, I think it might be hard to do, but you would do some pratice / tutorial short campain, like in Worms Armageddon for example, where you must shoot some targets with specific weapons and learn the basic moves

I think the barrett is balanced when limited in number per team like most popular CTF servers do

1. Netcode - It lays the basis of any shooting game and soldat has the potential to surpass the performance of other shooting games because of its lightweight
2. Polyworks - We can't really get the community to contribute if they don't have the working tools to do it. It is therefore essential
3. General bug-fixing - Once you've passed the ugly gui and confusing settings there's nothing more satisfactory than a fully functional 15 year old game!
4. Sound upgrade - Sound is often neglected, but for me it is a reason to keep coming back
5. Anti-cheat - It's annoying having to spend time on something like this, but it could be considered as what maintenance is to productiveness. The higher productivity the more maintenance needed. Preferably I would like to see solutions that eliminate the need for anti-cheat completely (can't think of any other way than an account system)
6. Matchmaking - Important indeed, but with that comes the need for a chat-room. If someone is working on a matchmaking system in discord, it would be enough? Various elements of Soldat is already spread out on different third party programs
7. New GUI - Gathering all these elements in one place would be neat, however I think we might lose ourselves in the mess if we try to make a fancy gui. Keep it simple

More skin options (for example, new hairs), new songs to play while we play soldat. 

Edit1: Could have assists for kills and for caps,it is cool.  ;)
