Hello everyone,

we have got a few news regarding the upcoming release of Soldat 1.8 (read more).

I'm happy to announce that Monsteri will join our team as an artist. He will continue working on the new art direction for Soldat 1.8.

Map changes:
We are going to remake Soldat's maps for the purpose of making the game more appealing for new players.
As Soldat currently has 97(!) default maps, we'will also 'drastically' reduce the official map pool for all gamemodes.

This will A) reduce the time it will take to redo the maps,
B) make it easier for us to keep maps up to date on a later date
and C) improve the user experience for new players (Quality > Quantity).

Interface changes:
We will remove Soldat's default custom-interfaces and replace them with modern HD interfaces.

You may also browse the 'Modded Interfaces' board for potential inspirations.



Weapons mod changes:
There will be a new weapons mod for Soldat 1.8 to improve balancing. The changes were already tested on #Soldat Gather for several weeks.
There were 10 revisions made during our tests. I will post the full WM changelog with further details next week.

I'm summing up the most important changes below:

Desert Eagles:

- Lower damage
- Removed movement acc. (= more precise aim while moving)
HK-MP5:

- Lower damage
AK-74:

- Lower damage
- Less SelfBink
- Faster BulletSpeed
Steyr AUG:

- Lower damage
- Ammo: +5 (=30)
- ReloadTime: +25 Ticks (+0.41 seconds seconds per clip)
Spas-12:

- Lower damage
Ruger-77:

- Slower FireInterval (0.65 seconds -> 0.85 seconds per bullet)
- Slightly less movement acc. (= more precise aim while moving)
M79:

- No changes
Barrett M82A1:

- Faster FireInterval (3.75 seconds -> 3.5 seconds per bullet)
- Ammo: -4 (=6)
- ReloadTime: +180 ticks (1.2 seconds -> 4 seconds per clip)
FN Minimi:

- Lower damage
- ReloadTime: -10 ticks (0.16 seconds less per clip)
XM214 Minigun:

- Lower damage
- Slower FireInterval (3 -> 6)
- Ammo: -20 (=80)
- ReloadTime: -80 ticks (8 seconds -> 6.66 seconds per clip)
- Reduced BulletSpeed
- Removed StartupTime (25 -> 0)
- Added Bink
- Less movement acc.
- Added recoil for a more realistic heavy machine gun behavior

Bot changes:
evh0 is currently remaking the bot appearances! We'll update the bot files once he finished.

Great job guys, keep it up :)

As long as we can see some progress like this, there is no need to rush a steam release. Any news on maintaining server stability (against DDOS attacks) or anticheat?

Any news on maintaining server stability (against DDOS attacks) or anticheat?

So far we are using some beta server releases for the main populated servers. As far as I can see, this problem is partially solved and if some problems happen, we(server admins) react to it pretty much fast.

As for 1.8 version, this should be commented by devs, but I can assure you that we might get closer to the point we won't face this kind of event in 1.8.

Any info about anticheat is still open to discuss.

I hope that this font shown on the default interface in these photos will be the font for the interface in the future instead current default.

Please modify an easier map vote system?
It takes forever to select a map from list ::
90+ maps and only ASH is being vote on public servers.
And maybe remove Ash from the list ? :E

I hate people using Ash on DM/TDM servers. Maps from other game modes shouldn't appear in the vote list.

Well, well well... Here we are again.

It is still my strong belief that keeping the maps in the zip is in the best interests for Soldat.

Quality over quantity isn't always the most logical choice.
I'd rather have 1000 grimey pound coins than 100 shiny ones.

I'm pleased that Monsteri is back to finish his pallet swap.

I will accept that you wish to update some maps. I can simply upload the originals with capitalised names. Don't feel obliged to update them all.

You will annoy more people by removing the maps than you will please.

Yes, there are 97 maps <3 You want to download them all individually?

I hope that someone at the top will make the right decision.

Will the current default HUD still be supported?

I understand you're worried about potential Soldiers being scared off by dated looking maps. Don't be. They can handle it. They'll like it. That Soldat has roots. History.

Also, there were no changes done to realistic wm for last 5 years since release of 1.6.4 and I would call them minor. Why all of sudden without any actual motivation there's a call to make some updates?

You don't have to register in order to use Discord and ask one question at the channel.
It will take you 30 seconds of time to figure out. If people are failing to do this, I really can't help or advise anything else.
I left the server months ago, took me 10 seconds to join back and even without previous access to some private channels, I had a quick look at #development. I got everything I need to satisfy my needs. Why others can't do the same?

The reasons there is still no devlog here are pretty much simple.
It is hard to sum up everything that has been done since July till today, including matchmaking and stuff to fix eats(possibly most of them). In addition, two new devs were added by that time.
When the alpha version will be done, there will be an announcement about it.
I could leak some more info, but I don't want to do it. Everything I know can be easily found in the mentioned sources.

As you can see, a little of the time used up to gather a lot of information about the development pace.

ash is perfect for dm. as is cambodia and some others. labels are just that. ya can dm atlest in many maps and have fun. tm perhaps ya can play but not so much fun

Personally, I'm on board with all of this.

This community has always been bizarrely conservative when defensive when it comes to changing weapon balances, and weirdly hostile to newcomers.

Anything that tweaks that balance is probably best for the long-term health, especially in light of the eventual steam release.

Also, the HD-ish character are looks great while still preserving the original style.
