After/Prematch chat
« on: June 12, 2006, 11:05:56 am »
Yeah, i know that itr will never be added, because it is very hard to create, but thi has been bugging me for a while.

While playing CTF i notice that using teamwork is (duh) quite important. But, sadly, such messages as "Regroup and attack together after they cap!" and "Soldat5, guard the flag! Others, attack low!" are very hard to say during the battle because:

1. While typing, you can get very easily killed or miss something else important (EFC passing by)
2. During the massive battle, very few pay attention.

Now, my idea is, that after each round, there will be a max 1 minute pause, when teammates can chat (without seeing, what their enemys write) about the next round, figure out tactics and discuss strategy.

My idea is, that by adding the prematch/aftermatch chat the game will be much more intelligent. Usually, at the beginning of a ctf round, everybody runs at the enemy base. Say, 3 out of 7 will die in the middle and other soldats will erach the base where they will meet the soldats they just killed. And so, the whole round will be just endless waves of soldats just running from one side of the map to the other. No guarding the flag, no strategy (i go low, you go high). All this, however, could be arranged during the prematch chat!

One idea i had was that after a normal map there will be a custom made map where the etams cannot see each other and there are no flags. The round wont last as long as the normal ones. But how to make it work like that? So that every second map will be ctf_chat and that the chat round will not last too long?

I understand what you mean, like Enemy Territory stuff, right?

Well, even if you DO have a prematch chat, somethings gonna come up that will screw up the plan.
Good idea, but it won't work.
Some servers set up Vent or TS servers for people with mikes, those work if more than one guy has a mike.

Yeah, good idea but it just won't get through and won't work.  The best solution to this is:  practice soldat a lot and get into a decent clan!  Then you'll play the game more tactical
Can't think of anything original to put here...

Ummm.I like the idea. How about in-game chatrooms. You can arrange easily cw:s.If you dont want to play you can easily just switch the chat channel and Speak with people. And thats will be noob friendly too.No need download Mircs.Just go to channel in soldat.

Instead of this, soldat should have in game VOIP. Don't know if it's possible though with just one guy working on it.

I'd rather not see something like this implemented. It seems like a waste of time to spend a minute discussing tactics with people in a public server, who will likely not pay attention to the strategy anyway.

As zyxstand said, try to get into a clan. A decent, active clan will utilize tactics far more than you could hope for from a bunch of people in a public server.

Instead of this, soldat should have in game VOIP.

In-game VOIP would be hot. But imagine the screaming we'd hear in public servers. :(

hmmm...I though that you guys will recommend clans and thats a great idea, but i doubt i will ever get into a decent one. But nvm about that.

I dont like the teamspeak or any other kind of VOIP, because since the game is big in Europe and i, myself aint that comfortable with my english, it will just complicate the matters.

I defiently dont agree on this one, because i have had loads of times when i have got people really working together and thinking before shooting, but its hella hard.

A decent clan doesn't necessarily have to mean a clan that's amazingly skilled. A decent clan, in my view, is a clan that has great chemistry, both in and out of the game. Don't doubt that you'll ever get into one. Find one that you think you'd fit in with and hang out with them for a while. If you still like and respect them, ask if they'd be interested in recruiting you. You'd be surprised by how many decent clans are out there and are recruiting.

That's exactly my point. It's extremely difficult to get people from public servers to work together. I wouldn't want to be forced to do it, because most of the time it will fail. When I join a public server, I just want to play.

Just use taunts if you need to tell someone something.

Having this implemented would probably just piss people off more than anything I think.

This would be a good idea for clan wars, but I don't think that it should be used in public servers, due to the fact that public servers are usually just full of people who actually want to just play the game.

It would be useless in publics, and in clanwars/gathers all you would have to do is set the map to something like laos or run and pause it so that the teams can't move or see the other team and can then strategize.

It definitely seems nice, but I think this idea is redundant.

1. Plans need not always be followed, or may screw up some time.
2. People may not want to wait 1 minute before playing. They just wanna play.
3. Good teams in cw/gathers would probably use mics to speak to each other using external voice programs like Xfire etc.

Make taunts it's way easier. If you are that worried about playing and winning, I seriously suggest playing gathers, believe it or not people in pubs are there mostly to have fun and don't want to wait.
