There is a S3 Soldat graphics pack that fixes that bug or whatever it is. I know my ThinkPad used a Savage graphics card and couldn't see much of anything until I loaded the Savage Soldat pack.

Yeah, it's caused by S3 cards not being able to render the whole images of the sprites. There are fixs for it, but they make it a lot laggier as well due to the extra graphics being rendered.
