I have a pretty good idea of how to set my controls but I guess its not good enough does anyone know any good ones?

Are you lefty? Do you have a mousewheel? Try this then...

Movement-Arrow keys
Shoot-L mouse button
Reload-Click Mousewheel
Switch Weapons-Scroll MW
Jets-R mouse button
Prone- Num 0
Nades-R ctrl
Throw weapon-Num 1

Mines similar, I also use arrows keys.

pointer finger D (right)
left thumb space bar (jump)
Q is (nades) that I tap with my left ring finger
caps lock is throw weapon which i use my left ring finger for as well.

righthand- mouse
left click (fire)
right click (jets)
side click (change weapon)
scroll wheel (vent hotkey)

I just use the regular WASD and mouse buttons..I think that's whats default in soldat?

My controls:

Movement - Default
Change weapon - Q
Throw Nades - E
Crouch - S
Prone - Left shift
Throw weapon - Space bar
Reload - Scroll mouse wheel
Shoot - Left mouse button
Jet - right mouse button

Basically they're all default with the exception of: Reload, throw weapon, and prone.

I'm confused. I assume you mean the only thing you changed are the default grenade and weapon switch keys, you just reversed them?

This control layout is close to your fingers reach and on the Right side of any Modern keyboard

My Favourite Control Settings

Right Shift = throw grenade
Left Mouse = shoot
Right Mouse = jet
Right CTRL = change weapon
Middle Mouse Button = prone
Numpad 0 = throw knife/drop weapon
Numpad 1 = reload
Arrow Key DOWN = crouch
Arrow Key LEFT = walk left
Arrow Key RIGHT = walk right
Arrow Key UP = jump

i dont get why you need to change your controls at all....maybe tweak some stuff, i have the spacebar for nades, and mouse wheel for wep. change....other than the default is laid out good.

Default throw button is horrible because you can't move left while throwing a knife with it. Here's what I changed:

Chat: mouse wheel
Teamchat: mouse button (pressing down the mouse wheel)
Throw: spacebar

So, it works quite well for me.

Ever played nearly any FPS game on PC?
Space bar is default jump for nearly any FPS game on PC.
In fact I use space bar as my Soldat jump key, and it feels just right.

i used the default for a while. but now i use "e" to reload instead of "r" and space for nades so i can move right and throw nades at the same time comfortably

I use the defaults too, except my throw weapon is spacebar because it's really handy to hold down to get a long throw with the knife, and quick too. But looking at some of the other configurations, i might change some of mine too.

yeah thats my controls. I really like my small tweaks. I made prone the scroll because its easier to do while sniping and you dont have to take fingers off moving keys... and yeah. and talks are easier to me lol.. yeah. I just couldn't take default throw. how can you use a knife effectively??? plus X for prone? thats killer (bad).

I use a somewhat modded default-based control scheme. I use three fingers because that's what I use when I keyboard StepMania. It's what I'm used to.

Left: A
Right: D
Jump: W
Crouch:S

'Nade: Mouse Wheel Button
Fire: Left Mouse Button

This way I don't have to stretch over half the keyboard (it feels like) to play. In case you're wondering, I use my middle finger to hit the reload, crouch and jump buttons. Jump and crouch came naturally from StepMania, and I play with my left hand slanted to the right a little, so it's kinda natural for me. I use the throw weapon and left buttons with my 4th finger, and the crouch and right buttons with my pointer.
