"runner"
« on: September 13, 2006, 08:27:01 am »
I hope this isn't just a whine thread that's been over-done, but here goes..

Why do people have such a problem with capping in R/S CTF? If your flag is captured, go to capture the enemy's flag so that they have to kill you to win. If someone has already got the enemy's flag then you should either escort the FFC or hunt for the EFC while making sure you are closer to the enemy base than the FFC is so that the enemy does not kill him and then cap if with you trying to catch up with him.

When an enemy caps, I sometimes think its annoying but overall it was my (and/or my team's) fault for not successfully intercepting the EFC. The only time when "running" is truly lame is when they kill everyone and then cap, getting 2 wins in one round.

Today someone whined at me for "running" and I told him that this is Capture-The-Flag. His comeback was that in real life people don't die when someone caps a flag and that I'm a noob, even though I came top/close to top of the scoreboard without capping.

Surely there must be some R/S Team Deathmatch server for all the people that have a problem with the enemy capping.

Whats the general view here?

That you're an idiot if you're really taking some other idiot's whining on-line to heart. :) You're absolutely right. Just ignore the cry babies. If they wanted to just play R/S then they can just as easily find a Death Match server with those options enabled or start one themselves.

^ Ya I shoulden't take him so seriously, but I would like to play without some idiot whineing and attemping to kick me. Not that this thread would stop that.

Maybe I could do what Chakra does and block out everyones chat, but I wont be able to hear tactical taunts when I play Regular mode (as its spying in R/S unless you say it just before you die).

Yeah, it happens. I just has someone try to kick me in !Elite Snipe & Slice after camping and killing him back after watching him box camp across four maps. Thankfully, most people (I like to think) are smart enough to see who's the whiny baby and ignore them. When you find yourself on a server with a completely unreasonable team -- such as insisting teams are fair when they're +4 players -- then it's just time to leave. It's just not worth the headache and effort when you're trying to play to have fun.

Maybe I could do what Chakra does and block out everyones chat, but I wont be able to hear tactical taunts.

Just mute the offending idiot. Chances are if he's spending the game crying "noob," vote kicking his killers, and other stupid acts, then he's not going to say anything to the team's benefit either.

Heh. Same here.

I actually opened up a R/S TDM server with CTF maps, just because I got upset with people yelling "RUNNER"  whenever I, or someone other capped. >_>

I TOTALLY AGREE. The game mode is called capture the flag and yet people are criticized and even vote kicked for...capturing the flag? That is totally lame. At first I thought that being able to cap after the enemy team is dead and the round is over was a bug. I suppose it could be intentional but it doesn't really make sense. The only reason I can think of for it would be: If players can get an extra point by capping the flag, there would be more incentive to go for the flag instead of treating every round like a deathmatch. In reality it just makes the flag even more far removed from the game. People mostly ignore the flag, and if they do grab it, they refuse to cap until all the enemy players are dead. In my experience, they usually end up dead and blow a perfect opportunity to end the round then and there.

I think the game should be changed so that when one team is terminated, the round ends immediately (so that getting two points in one round is impossible). People would then seriously consider going for and capturing the flag to win a round.

Usually the only people those reason whine is because they dont want to get out of their precious camping spots and actually do some dirty work.
Although some servers do have rules against running.

Well, that'll get the job done. :P
To sum up my point: We had a multipage debate about toilet padding. (Putting TP in the water so you don't get splashed.)

His comeback was that in real life people don't die when someone caps a flag and that I'm a noob,

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahhaha

fuck, i spilled my soda

1. This game is not real life, nor is it trying to simulate it.
2. In "real life," people don't fly around in a 16-man war, settling their differences (whatever they may be) by playing capture the flag.
3. Hah, he called you a "noob." People should find better insults.

Calling someone a n00b as a bland insult is just for retards who don't have the brain capacity to come up with a good comeback.

I'm not much of a R/S person, but people who say "runner" are dumb...Yes of course I ran, THATS THE POINT. Without cappers R/S CTF is no more than a teammatch. I love it when I'm called a runner I just say "Then catch me bitch"

Just ignore them.  People who call others runners are most likely new to r/s.

Exactly.  In R/S, learn how to move fast, or get a bullet to the head.
