A Moment For My Sister
« on: September 14, 2006, 04:05:16 am »
I was watching my sister playing soldat, and then this other major came on and it turned into a Major vs Major match, rather funny, i recorded it and had a laugh or two at how funny the majors play, watch that m79 miss about 5 times at close range lol, then my sister got a home run because he couldnt get her and then just left, my sis was so happy lol (she is a newb)

You're from New Zealand, right? Great. How old is your sister? What city do you live in?

That is pretty funny, but I found your sister casually walking away with the flag even with explosions going off behind her to be funnier. Was this her first time playing a PC game requiring mouse and keyboard? WASD + mouse is a pretty unwieldy control scheme, and that would explain a lot of the awkward movements and actions in the demo.

I recently watched some video on YouTube (no link) of a Japanese man playing video games for the first time. He was playing Super Mario Bros. and doing things like running away from power-up mushrooms, walking into enemies, and other odd things while he adjusted to the rules and controls of the game. It's easy to take your familiarity with technology and games for granted.

F8 to record and stop. Also, there is no need for crummy outside file hosting services when users can zip and upload the file directly to the post.

Maybe I'm yet to be enlightened with a better scheme, but WASD+mouse doesn’t fail me.  ???

Unless youre compareing that with console control pads and joysticks..

And where it says IP type in the name of the demo

I'm taking about someone new to videogames. I doubt Soldat (or any FPS shooter) is your first video game. This thread is about his sister and preassumably someone else new to PC action games and how awkward it is for them to play. The current PC control configuration isn't very new person friendly, the same as how fighting games have become so complex where the control scheme can scare off those not used to complex controller patterns.

i did that and it says playing demo and i aint seeing anything or hearing anything T_T

Did you put the .sdm file in your demo folder in the Soldat directory? If you did, you should be able to get it to run by typing this in the Run command, assuming your Soldat is in the same location:

"C:/Program Files/Soldat/Soldat.exe" -demo majorvsmajor

Open the zip folder, and put the DD Player application file into your main Soldat file, then open it and it should have a list of all the demo's you've recorded to your Demo's folder (which is located in your main Soldat folder)

I seriously would have a big laugh if my sis ever took on soldat.... she nearly never play games on a computer... :P

My little bro however...he used to be better than me, but he quit playing...  :-\

there is nothing worse IMO than having a younger sibling being better/more skilled at something than you lol. I feel your pain when my little bro pwned me in Halo 2 for the first time ever the other day :(
Your acting like your having a duel and your opponent gets a pistol and you get a spork.
Isn't that pretty much what it is? I dunno wtf a spork is, I suppose it's way weaker than the pistol since you compared that to this.
