or rather contribute to open-source projects that exist now (cough. firefox) rather than feeling that you have to go out on your own and try to make something bigger and better

Well, you get credit for making the first web browser entirely dedicated to Soldat. And that's cool in my book. ;)
Maybe you could try making a Soldat-themed Firefox skin and plugins, or something for Opera, since that seems to be pretty popular around here too. Whatever works for you. I look forward to seeing what you do next, you're better at this programing thing than I am.
