R.I.P My old pc :'(
« on: September 19, 2006, 05:59:58 am »
NOOOOOOO! My celery pc is gone! I plugged it back in and pressed the power button and a bunch of sparks flew out of the power supply.......now it's dead :( AND IT WAS MY FIRST PC.

Is it even worth getting it a new power supply, I have some stuff on the hardrive........The same exact things happened to another computer a month ago. But there's a really really old pc that I can maybe get the power supply off.....I'm confused

Maybe it has to do with it being 6 years old?

Sounds like your motherboard fused or your PSU packed it in. Or more likely, both.

...put it together yourself, didn't ya.
MM; seriously Chakra, stop the fisting

Well, bummer dude.  Still, good new excuse for a new one, eh?
To sum up my point: We had a multipage debate about toilet padding. (Putting TP in the water so you don't get splashed.)
And we still don't know if dead guys can keep a stiffy.

I mourn with you, brother. Perhaps, if they aren't too brutal, we could be allowed pictures of this incident?
I fucking miss all you cunts!

Harsh. I don't know too much about the sort of thing, but chances are, you can just plug the hard drive into a new PC to get everything you want off it, unless there was a power surge that 'sploded it or something. Bah, don't listen to me.

As I think of it, the only component left of my original computer is, of all things, the monitor. It's old and ugly, but still works like a charm. I think it's just starting to go, though.

I don't really care if the latest monitor is some crap super-flat-screen, I don't care how flat the screen is, all I want is a cheap CRT working monitor.

I'm using an AOC CRT Monitor and it works better than ever.

I'm not a big fan of flatscreens, either. If I were to get one of those, it'd have to be one with a really good refresh rate. I hate ghosting.

My dad has a really nice one, though, so I might look into one of those.

XDDDD... I laughed my ass off at that picture.

About the PC, I really dunno what to do. I've never heard about anything like that before. Best of luck for you ^__^;

That's peculiar, I have heard of... what, 4 PC's now "dying" from the exact same thing. I even caused one to die that way about a year ago (stupid-"flick-me-to-blow-up-your-power-supply"-voltage-switch). You didn't accidentally switch the voltage switch on the back, did you? That usually causes sparks, a loud bang, and funny coloured smoke once it gets plugged back in.

Just get a new one. Sounds like you need a newer one anyway.

Yep, green smoke with a weird smell to it (as I said before, I experienced it myself). Fortunately the motherboard wasn't damaged in the process, so we could save the computer with a simple PSU replacement.

Heh, I did that too, hoping that it would turn on if I switched it back. I always thought they should have a warning sticker or engravement near the switch, because I do think that curious people (me) will flick it without thinking that the consequnce might be a dead power supply and a small fire if you have paper on top of the tower.
