Death Animations
« on: September 24, 2006, 01:35:26 am »
I thought more death animations would be cool, here are some examples...

Grenade: If it lands under, or very close to  the enemy, the player explodes into pieces, with say 3 differant sound effects

Grenade: If it is within death range, but only just, the player falls backwards onto his back or stomach (depending which way he is facing on impact)

Shotgun: If shot in the stomach, the middle of the player gets splatted everywhere, leaving a pile of legs and a head

Cluster Grenade: If the cluster kills the enemy, the top half of the player blows away, instead of just the head

Sniper: If shot in the head, it wont always fly off, you might just fall backwards onto your back/stomach or hold your head then fall over

Sniper: If shot in the legs, your player collapses and puts his hand out as if asking for mercy, then dies.

Fall Damage: If the player falls and dies in realistic, your legs get impaled into the ground turning to mush leaving the players top half of the body sitting upright

Post your own thoughts for other animations...

Note: So that the animations weren't annoying, maybe they could only happen on instant kills or when that Slow-Motion thing happens or maybe say only 10% of kills had these animations

Actually, Soldat hasn't got any special death animations, it's all ragdoll physics. So adding all this would probably be pretty hard to do.

And, I don't really think it's a good idea. Also, the Fall Damage one is kind of impossible to implent.

I agree that it should all be left to the ragdoll physics. After all, they're a part of what makes this game so great. 8) This includes bodies falling away from explosions, and bodies reacting appropriately to shots fired at body parts (legs being shot from under you, propelling you backwards properly (so you fall backwards) when killed from a spas shot to the chest, etc etc).

Even if such stuff would be tricky to code... it would be quite fun.... ;D

Soldat's ragdoll physics are incredible, especially since they were in the game long before they became an industry standard for 3D first-person-shooters.  Major props to Michal for coding it.  Anything else would look much worse.

I think this would be useless cuz the Ragdoll physics & Animations are funny as hell already...so i think this idea isn't a good one

Pretty much what I was thinking... I don't think it's worth the coding time, even given the threadstarter's edit.
