Karma suggestion
« on: September 25, 2006, 01:17:50 pm »
I was wondering about people like Dascoo who have very negative karma. When I see numbers like them, it hits me the same second - why would I applaud him? What good it would do? Minus seventynine karma instead of minus eighty karma? You get the point.

Perhaps this could be fixed. What if, you would only be shown whether Dascoo's karma is negative or positive (or neutral if zero)? You couldn't know if it was minus five million or minus one. I think this would help a lot.

Another idea, karma roof... or whatever you could call it. This would mean that your karma couldn't go over or under a certain point (such as ten to twenty). I guess this would stop horrible, point-of-no-return passed, astronomically negative karmas, such as Dascoo's.

These ideas could work pretty good with each other, and a karma restart would do good with them, methinks.

how about a minus sign for each place value, for example:
Code: [Select]
karma   sign
1           +
10         ++
100       +++
-1          -
-10        --
-100      ---

I like the idea, especially since my karma is the lowest.

Great idea, but needs tweaking

An infinitely negative/positive karma is okay. I just think that with every applaud for someone past -20, his karma should rise by +10 instead of +1. But only after -20. (Smiting still goes down by 1)

I think it is fine the way it is, posting constructive comments, beiing respectful and friendly are all ways to increase your karma.

So the reason karma action interval was lengthened to 72 hours is...?

Ru did, to force people who smite for the sake of it to wait longer. I don't really think it'll do anything, to be honest...

Is it possible to keep the interval at 24 hours for applaud?

Hey, the 72 hour interval thing is really great. 24 hours was enver enough. I was thinking, any chance that karma status can be shown in the "member page"?

72 hours is great, i would just like to add that jrgp has -100 karma now. maybe someone with karma that low gets like 10 for each applaud until they are back to like -50, because there isn't much he could do to redeem himself. there should be some kind of second chance like that.
