Server Rentals?
« on: September 25, 2006, 02:13:50 pm »
I know SELFKILL rents servers, and I've been thinking about buying/renting one for my b-day ;D.  But I was wondering: does U13 rent/sell servers?

Does someone else sell/rent them in N. America, I'd prefer to have my server on my side of the ocean.

Does that even make a difference? ???

If you don't mind 100 ping, then go with a European server. If you need 60, go with Enesce.

I also do hosting, with better features.

http://enesce.com/index.php?page=servers

like what, charging an extra $3/month for a crash-monitoring script?

I can play competitive advertising games too ;)

Yes charging extra for better crash detection that uses more memory and has better (+instant) detection than that 2 minute gamestat checking you use... (Which is already applied to all my customers servers anyway)... Beats your crash detection.

Ah, touch`e

At some point I'll be adding better crash detection to mine for free, but yes yours is better for now (even though you charge more)

My advice.  Pick one.  Try it.  If you don't like it make sure you copy all the settings you used down and move on to the next host.

The three hosts i North America that I know of are that don't charge an arm and two legs are.

www.enesce.com
www.hyper-gaming.com
www.u13.net

Each have their own Issues/problems.  While not everyone on them may never encounter or feels there is a issue/problem.   So pick one and move on if you don't like it.

There are more expensive solutions out there.  But i've never touched them because they don't appear specialize in soldat.

Dont go hyper-gaming, they steal your money after you pay $130USD for 30 days of server usage and only get 8 days then tell you your server got provisioned; and dont give you a refund. Long story.

Brock wishes Brock had ridiculously fast internet, so he could set up his own.

High-Speed Cable just don't cut it...

Uhmmm...  EnEsCe....

It says on your site...  "6 slots for $6"

I don't want/need 6 slots.  I only need about two (1 priv and 1 pub).  Can I grab individual servers instead of a six pack?

Thanks.

A slot is a player, not a server. 6 slots for $6 means a server with space for 6 people to connect for $6.

Currently, a private server is $0.80/slot, and a public server is $1/slot. Private means the server always has a password on it. So, to figure out the cost of a server, multiply the desired number of people by whatever type of server you want. ie: a 10 slot private server would be $8, and a 12 slot public server would be $12.

Doing so is a violation of the user agreement, and if you get caught doing so, I do believe the ToS are worded so that we can simply cut off service at any time without a refund. (Not that we would do that immediately; we would give a warning first.) I'm not sure what, if any, automated measures are currently in place though. The admin panel tells us what the current settings of any given server is, so it's easy enough for us to check.

Not to flame you on this, but lets do get the story out in the open. Explain to the people since you decided to tell them NOT to buy from me. Explain what happened in detail. Or would you like for me to do it?

It is simple, you have a script check against this and if they are in fact doing this. Shut down/suspend the account. After it is manually turned back on more than 3 times charge a fee. That usually makes them stop.
