Poll? What poll?

Pretty much good gameplay. Everything after that comes as a bonus.
I'll check up on the internet first and read reviews on it. I'm pretty shallow as well, as sometimes I buy games if the cover looks really cool.

I always love games with a background story, especially if they release prequels and sequels.
Examples like the Command & Conquer Series and the Grand Theft Auto Series.

Top six take away creator.
When looking for games I look at the creators websites to see whats coming up (I avoid EA)
I went for graphics as its now quickly catching up on me, sadly. I gladly play games with bad graphics (soldat) however now I'm slightly annoyed when new games come out with useless graphics.
Story and online are the highest on my list though as they choose its replayability.

I like to have a game that is good quality the my friends have said are good, and I also like to know what type it is. Also, I check if the game will run well on my computer (if it is a computer game) or if it has more than one player (console games, bar RPG's).
I don't mind graphics at all, unless they are 3D and horribly polygonal.

Metal Gear Solid has a good story behind it all

Replayability. To me, replayability is worth good graphics, sounds, and originality.

Quite often I enjoy prequels and sequels to games, continuous storylines are always nice(only in games I buy, ofcourse). I also generally steer clear of EA, they always update there games way too often.

How many versions of EA soccer do we need? Every new version just has updated camera angles and new commentators.

They update and then find theres something wrong with the update and have to update again and so the cycle continues.

Good polish ("Quality") is what really sets a great game a part from just some crummy moneymaker. For the record, EA Games doesn't make anything, it's just a moneygrubbing publisher which is slowly squeezing the life out of the entire video game industry.

Story is seriously overrated.

Gameplay and replayability. Graphics don't matter (unless they're ASCII.)

Which console it's on matters too, because I don't have an Xbox 360 and that's what Dead Rising is on. And I reallyreallyreallyreally wanna play Dead Rising.

It means that they eventually start distributing lower quality games and patches because they know if there's a problem it can be fixed with another patch.

I went for quality of the game, on-line play and then I chose other.
My other two points would be multiplayer ability and  replayabilty.
Soldat definitely covers all those bases, as do some of my other favorite games: Phantasy Star Online and soon to be Universe.  Super Smash Brothers covers all those except on-line (unless your using internet magics), but soon that will all change with the Wii.

I don't really care about graphics, which is why I choose to play ps1 games half the time. If I can tell whats going on, and atleast 40% of things look really, really cool/awesome, it's good enough.

Secondly, is concept, games like Pychonuats, Homeworld, and some rpgs come out on top here. If it is an interesting concept (like the pokemon games were when they first started), or is just cool (blast corps, anyone?!?) then it gets a check-mark here.

For sound, as long as theres some good effects, and a stick-in-your head soundtrack (like paper-mario, for example) then it wins here.

Next comes story, if the game has a cool storyline, it's good; which isn't to say I don't play games with no storyline, digimon world three got me hooked and the story line does not exist until 10 hours into the game (at which point it get suddenly really confusing).

Lastly, and probably most importantly, is entertainment. I look for "omgwtfbbq" moments, like getting a 1000ko count in dynasty warriors, grabbing someone from behind in splinter cell, or ripping people in half in God of War. Funnieness counts here, too, like in "destroy all Humans", the first few minutes seem dead-serious, but then the moment the main character shows up, its hirarious from then-on.

Or if , say, my cousin/friend/magazine recomends it, then I'll just try it 'cuase someone whos played it said-so.

The story. That's all that's needed for me to play even with crappy graphics. Tho i like games that have a special feel to them. Best game that i have ever played and still play is Baldur's Gate 2.
