teleport possibilities
« on: September 30, 2006, 12:48:16 pm »
Yah.

I wanna ask this:

Is there a way I can make a teleport shoot me downwards?

or

is there a way I can make the teleport shoot me sideways?

and

Is there a way to make me fall down faster only using map elements? (map making tricks ect.)

In all my teleporting knowledge, a teleporter will shoot you at whatever direction you hit it from and the angle it's slanting. I've kinda tried this with inf_heavensbase and just settled with a regular -teleporter; if you want soldaten to launch sideways you have to smack into a sideways teleporter, like your ctf_minerva's 3rd launch technique.

A teleporter that shoots you downwards you'd have to jump or fly into; it'd be a ceiling. Whatever direction it's facing is the direction it pushes you.

(lol @ your sig. :P I actually completed ctf_minerva just a few minutes ago, and ultimately just gave up on the rear chutes of the spacecraft...)

great info. then why the hell i see no PMs?!

about the teleporting. I just created a new map (I guess you saw it on the ERA minigun bs topic.)
the jumpgate thing is the the thing ill be using as the teleporting device.
theres gonna be 2 areas (for starters, maybe more later) and those will ''warp you'' into that area.
Im not sure what I will include in it, so suggest.

Wouldn't they just be called "Jumppads" and not Teleporters?

well teleports are actually jumppads, but much, much more powerful. A teleport can warp your soldat through a fat layer of polygons just like that.

jumppads are weaker, they kick the player in whatever direction, but not through a poly.

theres also a weaker type of a jumppad aswell. its called a f***ing polybug. And many soldat default maps are full of them.

Yeah i've seen one of those. I think it was Bigfalls, i might be wrong, but there was a small cave. So i walked into and crouch-walked into the corner. After a while it pushed me back to a ledge. So i did it again but this time i jumped and the same happened. Fun fun fun for 25 seconds.

Here's a possibility for a down teleport.

I haven't tested this yet but I think that if you wanted a down teleport that you could jump on, you could make a bounce poly that shoots you to the teleport poly right above it. If done correctly this would teleport you down even if you went up a little first. Not quite the same but a pretty cool affect.

Be aware that you're bumping an "old" thread, so good luck with that. Still, since this is a pre-Mat-na topic, it should be noted that flawless teleporters have been created in Mat-na's ctf_Warp. They actually function as a teleporter should and not some buggy jump polygon concoction.
