Bash Pit
« on: October 02, 2006, 10:21:21 am »
In the old forums, Bash Pit was the place where you could spam as much as you wanted to (the almost unmoderated forum). When the new forums came, Bash Pit got deleted along with the old forums. That was because... well, actually I don't even know why.

Some say it was because Bash Pit wasted too much good memory. This could have easily been solved by limiting the maximum amount of threads to maybe sixty (three pages)! The threads that would go over the limit would be deleted. This wouldn't use much memory, and everyone would be happy. Though some people said that Bash Pit was deleted because they couldn't stand it. Then stay away! You don't have to go there if you don't want to. Everyone will be happy.

Chakra said that now the Bash Pit is gone, the Lounge will be a more casual place. I don't exactly remember what word he used, but to me, the Lounge feels more like a nazi extermination camp. Threads will be deleted if they get over five pages. The unspoken rule of the Lounge. I'm not saying that the recent bombardments of crap towards the forums were done because Bash Pit is gone, but I'm certain that the deletion didn't help it!

I liked Bash Pit. I liked the Soldat Bar. Why not restore Bash Pit? Why not?

I find spamming very annoying and useless, though when I think about the Soldat Bar I recall it as a very fun thread.

Still, my hate for spam weighs heavier than my love for the Soldat Bar, so I guess my vote here will be negatory.

People didn't criticize it when it still existed. Why not make a test and see if it works?

If it's costing money to keep something like that up, then I don't know why one would want to keep it there.

Anyways, spam is boring.  Try Mad Libs! 8)

The Bash Pit worked well, although i can see why it was removed. We just have to set the right example. Just because you have the freedom to post silly things, doesn't mean you should go posting total crap.

It's just a matter of drawing the line

My thoughts exactly. The Lounge is too heavily guarded; that kind of moderating enthusiasm could be more well off in the game suggestions forum. My vote is no since The Lounge can be something like an appropriate Bash Pit; the staff governing The Lounge just need to lighten up a bit, IMO, and all would be well.

If I was modding the lounge I'd have tea time at noon, and everything would be sweet as candy.  Not to mention quite dandy.

I'm fine with the way things are though.  I don't see a need to bring it back since most of what went on there was just mindless drivel like the soldat bar or the last person to post threat.  I mean come on...do people even think before they type sometimes?

I never really read the Soldat bar or last person to post thread.

Although i think they helped keep the mindless drivel out of other important sections, thus keeping the forums a bit cleaner.

If the Bash Pit is restored, people will spam much less in other forums, which would be nice. I voted yes.

No, all your useless spam shit posts do nothing more than fill the servers SQL database with crap; which slows down the database for the rest of us who appreciate normal threads.

Christ, I said that the "precious database" problem could be solved by limiting the maximum amount of threads to sixty. Read before you write.

And yes, I would bet that spam on the other forums would be reduced significantly.

I wish I could have been around while the Bash Pit existed.  It sounded fun. :P

oh it was, it was very fun. It was nice and light hearted while the lounge was for serious things. Now that they are kind of smashed together there is so much gray area between what we can and cannot say.

It was never a matter of how good the community looked, it was not viewable to the public.

At first I was gonna vote yes and be all, "YESPLZZ." But then I remembered the 90% of the threads in the bash pit sucked.

We do, however, need a place to spam. I would reccomend OIFY, but.. the people over at facepunch have no sense of humor, they just post furry porn and links to websites that give you viruses.

In the old forums I stayed out of the bash pit for months after registering but when I finally got around to it, I found it fairly amusing and I checked it every time I logged on in case someone thought up somthing funny..

The bash pit is not coming back.  The forums have greatly improved since we got rid of it.  Half of the people who voted here don't want it, half do.  It wouldn't be fair to those who don't want it to bring it back, especially since it would have many other effects on the forums.
