Night vision and silenced weapons
« on: October 03, 2006, 05:19:26 pm »
Night vision:
this idea comes from a certain map on leos full real ctf server. in this map, its dark, and kindof hard to see(i dont like it for some reasons, thats not one of them). i think that with (understating a lil bit) just a lil bit of programming, you could add in an optional NVG, which would make the line of sight from the persons head(like a cone beam sort of thing) into the greenish resolution found in normal NVGs. its prolly not worth the trouble, but just a thought,(it could be map specific, so its only optional for certain maps, or something)

Silenced weapons:
this comes from a really good mod i have.(Spec.Ops.V2, FMBM, and in many others). anywho, unfortunately it would be hard to implement without a config before hand, but a secondary silenced weapon could add a stealth element to the game, if only on realistic that is....

any thoughts?

Night vision, smoke grenades and other visual stuff will probably never be put into soldat because of its engine, or something along those lines.

Presuming the players don't 'spy', silent weapons could have some use. Although it sounds a bit too much like more Counter-Stike'inating Soldat. I doubt it would be put in. ::)

Soldat's really too fast-paced for those. Regular players wouldn't be patient enough to work with those kinds of features, although I see what you would like the game to have.

you have no idea how sick i am of hearing people say to mod it themselves.  that's basically as useful as suggesting to mod the player's graphic to make him invisible to play as if you were in predator mode........that doesn't help in multiplayer online gameplay.

anyways, the nightvision would be too useless considering that only a small number of maps contain darkness.  ideas should be more globally useful than that.

silencer wouldn't be too practical either...  if you already have pred mode which is the only form of stealth that the game will have - there your guns r silenced, k?
Can't think of anything original to put here...

i have some hopefully BETER sugestions, 1: the minigun, its mostly for spraying and getting the flag and minigunboosting back to base yea? wel YES thats all it can do, its useles against other autos cause its startup, its useles against baaret cause it has the most useles acuracy and wel the reload sucks to, wouldentit be beter if it could have some sour of moutable stand? not like the stationery but like you would have on a sniper rifle, the 2 legs. this would improse accuracy while you are stationery and would make the minigun a beter all round wep other than spray.

2:M79, for gods and soldats sake REMOVE M79 FROM THE GAME and put some other noob weapon into the game like a ground to soldat launcher, or anti tank gun, the M79 is more noob than both of these combined.

Actually, while you can hear your sound edits online, others can't unless they use the same file.

silencers would not really help staying stealthy, ive found that most of the experienced realistic mode players can locate you with out you even shooing. (by hearing your foot steps).
silencing your gun would not help silencing your foot steps, making that kind of useless, imo

Meh, no likey.  This makes soldat WAY too complicated for the casual gamer.
To sum up my point: We had a multipage debate about toilet padding. (Putting TP in the water so you don't get splashed.)
And we still don't know if dead guys can keep a stiffy.

@Zamorak: that IS the point. There's no point in modding a sound file so that it's silenced if the others will still hear their own when the idea is to make it harder to hear the gunshot throughout the entire server.

when I read the post, I was under the impression that this would be a game implementation. My point was that why do this when someone can just change their own soundfiles. I never once said anything about one's sound being used universally.

^ This is the Game Improvements / Suggestions section; If people wanted to make something for just themselves and whoever wanted to d/l it, they would have posted this in the mod section unless they didn't know that weapon modding is possible. Modding something is not the same as having it officially in Soldat as standard.

That's why its good to crouch or even crawl while moving and limit the use of your jets.

i agree, but i think smoke grenades would work. Imagine a guy loading up  the building at INF_Warehouse with smokies, running in and hoppin out!

EDIT: Poor kids got -15 karma for one bad suggestion  :-[
Your acting like your having a duel and your opponent gets a pistol and you get a spork.
Isn't that pretty much what it is? I dunno wtf a spork is, I suppose it's way weaker than the pistol since you compared that to this.

I like the idea of night vision and silenced weapons.

But maybe they should just be additions to the preditor power-up.

I have applauded you for your creativity, I hope others do the same.

wow, this moved forward whilst my network was down. anywho, ive just got to harp first, mods DO NOT work with silenced weapons. all youll be doing is making other peoples weapons silenced, like a reversed cheating graphic mod. i like the idea of nvg during predator mode though, and i cant say that i can recall the silenced weapons,,,,(cant really recall them altogether either),,,, helping much cuz the jet is a dead giveaway, an to any experienced player just the faint outline thats there is enough to get you killed. i think that really what silenced weapons would input would be in some medium close maps there are catacombs of tunnels where they could really be put to good use, and this would greatly help snipers and campers in general(though that might not be such a great thing, lol). i myself am an mp5 user, and i have a mod that has a config where i selected a silenced socom as a weapon, and besides the fact taht it didnt actually help, i liked the way that you could just wip out a silenced weapon when you go into more hostile territory, and so you could sneak up on people rather than just unload on them wit the auto, which gives you away an everyone can hear. errrmmm,
later :ninja:

its prolly not worth the trouble
No it's not. But it may be useful for darker maps... Map specific.. Not a bad idea.
