I put soldatserver into my 100mbit server. Then I set soldat.ini and mapslist.txt. Finally I started ./soldatserver but sometimes, at the map-change, server freezes with "Error: Could not load map (Too many files open)". Why? I'm wrong?

You dont know how to give file permissions properly do you....

Ensure that all the files for the server, including maps, are owned by the user that runs the server. Also ensure that the files have read/write permissions.

I started server with www-data permissions (I've assigned chown 33:33 recursively at all files) So I've to set the maps directory to chmod 777?

In that case, check your mapslist for any invalid entries; something as simple as "ctf_b2b " (note the space) or ctf_B2b (note capitalization) will cause this error.

I made mapslist.txt using this command:

ls -1 | grep 'ctf_*' > mapslist.txt
and, after, I replaced with nano all ".PMS" entries.
So the error still happens...

About the only thing left is to make sure that all files have read/write permission, ie: chmod 0666 /var/soldat/maps/*.PMS or chmod a+rw /var/soldat/maps/*.PMS, and the user that owns the server executable owns all the files as well, ie: chown -R www-data /var/soldat/ (using your own installation path where apropriate)

actually i have this bug very often, are you by any chance playing custom maps?
i get those errors when a lot of people are requesting files.

new server version should have fixed this though, havent tested..

Under 2.5.2, I haven't seen this error at all, except when my mapslist had an invalid entry due to a space. Since the server has been running for over a month(beta version), that's a pretty good sign that bugs in that regard are fixed.

So upgrading to 2.5.2 is also recommended.

Oh my God, it's not possible

This is the 100th time I try to start my own Soldat server, but the error is the same... I chmodded and chowned all the files but everytime there is the same problem... I'm exausted...

HELP ME PLEASEEEEE!!! $:-\$

Have you tried using the new version of the server, 2.5.2 ? http://www.soldat.pl/down-s.html

If all else fails, I'm willing to check out your config for you, if you are willing to let me have access to the username/password for your server. FliesLikeABrick is also most likely capable of doing so, time allowing. There isn't a whole lot left in the realm of possibilities. But remember, if you go this route, send details through PMs, not in posts.

permissions carry over in .tar.gz files though

I have exactly the same problem when I load a map list, and when I want the next map of the new loaded maplist ...

I think the problem is because in the soldatserver.zip packet some directory like "Textures" "Edges" and "Scenery-gfx". Have I to insert these dirs into my linux server? If yes, I've to put them without capital letters?
