How's EVE Online?
« on: October 16, 2006, 06:50:28 am »
What is your opinion on it for people who have played it or own it? From what I've read, it's looks really fun, though I've never played it. Is there a huge learning curve? I've been looking at this game for a long time, so when I get a job, I'm gonna get this game for sure :) Unless someone persuades me not to get it.

For those who have no ****ing idea what I'm talking about, here's the wiki article.

There's quite a big learning curve, but it's hella fun. The only problem is it is time rewarding. The more you play the more money you can get, the longer you play the more skills you have. So basically to pose a threat to the big PvPers(if you want to PvP) you have to play atleast 2 years. But by then they will have 2 years more XP too ;)
Anyway you can earn money by killing NPCs, mining, PVPing, trading, making stuff.......stealing from corporations? Getting lucky with a very rare object....anyway I recommend it, but it will steal your life away.

That's how it is with every MMO.

Not really. Here skills are upgraded with time. The better attributes you have the less time it takes for it to upgrade. So basically you can just pay for it and do skill log-ons for 2 years and have good skills.

Join a good corporation that is recruiting and they will help you. There is a lot of noob friendly corporations around...Make sure you pick a good one, don't just join the first one you see recruiting. First thing you do is get learning skills to 5 :D Then adv. learning to 4.

Thanks for bringing up this topic.
I've also been looking at EVE-online from far, and I still wish I could play it. That's exactly my type of game: spaceships, S-F atmosphere, wide space feelings and all that. Very large game anyway.
The graphics are amazing from what I used to drool at and the gameplay seems very elaborated. You also have a clan system or something that promote team play somehow. A danish friend of mine plays it a lot currently as he left WoW -which got boring as he said.
I hope it will last some more decades so that I can play it someday in the far future. I don't think that will happen though.

It's definitely one of the most interesting MMORPG to play, provided you've got lots of money, a powerful computer and your life is made of free time...
You can try a 15 days demo, simply check the official site.

It's a beautiful looking game, but it's very much spreadsheets in space. The fact that Eve Online touts its lack of a grind despite that you'll spend most of your time mining, traveling, and just literally waiting days upon days to amass money and skills kills the game for me. When I realized it will take me six months in real-time of just waiting before I would have accumulated enough skill points to pilot a stealth ship just annoys me. If you play Eve, it seems like you have to join a clan ("corporation") to get any enjoyment from the game.

Actually I find piloting a war ship, and fighting in massive battles with hundreds of other players, and exploring a giant sci-fi universe much more enjoyable then running around as a dwarf with a sword and fighting....koreans.

Actually I like the fact that it takes a long time to do things, because then it's more immersive :D I've been looking for a space game...I've been trying to ask my dad to get Homeworld 2 for me for a long time :(... So anyways I'll probably be getting this when I get my job which is this summer

And about these corporations...are they like countries? Nations? Because I was looking at there discussions that someone made a titan class ship, and that there going to have to guard there boarders more....even though they most likely would never use it because it's so expensive but anyways yes I'm doing research, I don't wanna go in being a complete noob...just a little nooby :D

I just love Homeworld 2 and still play that sometimes. It's always good to see lots of fans remain active. :)
If you want games like EVE you should check out X3-Reunion, Freelancer, DarkStar One and even I-War 2 or Freespace 2 if you really like this genre. At least they cost less money. ;)

i've got a better idea. go outside and interact wtih real people. videogames are fine when you've got nothing better to do, but don't piss away your youth on an MMORPG.

Who are you to say he dosen't go outside? Even if you play MMORPG's, a little self control can go a long way with your social life my friend. Willpower to stop playing every once in a while is all it takes.

As Dascoo said, WoW is boring. To many koreans....and so much HACKING! God this reminds me of an old South Park episode....
ONTOPIC: The game looks awesome, but having to pay for a subscription at $14.95 a month sorta puts me off the game...therefore I wouldn't even bother. BUT....graphics wise it looks awesome. Get it if you have the money :)

I've never run into a korean or a hacker.  Neither has my bro... he is lvl 54 or higher.  Are you sure you are basing your opinion on facts or rants of immature idiots on random gaming forums.

That's what I like about EVE, I can travel to another system which takes forever while I'm at school, or hanging out.
