Possible M79 Solution (NOT DELAY)
« on: October 17, 2006, 08:40:23 pm »
M79 is a valid weapon. What infuriates most of us non-M79 players are the close range kills (close range = 1 soldat foot) that murder us but let the M79ers live. Fixing this is quite simple: increase the explosion size or splash damage (whatever) and make self-damage 100%.

It's as simple as that.

People only truly get mad when the game is full of m79ers. I think m79 should have a little more increased self-damage, but not 100%. Isn't it 30 right now?

If you actually play with the M79 the way it's meant, self damage shouldn't bother you.

Trouble is, there are too many newbies and people who just want easy kills... and if they can't already learn to not shoot at point blank range, then they're not going to learn at all. I don't see how this will solve anything.

Plus, Mr. Domino won't be able to m79 boost anymore. ;D

Yeah, that is my main concern with this too. I like M79 jumping and I don't want to lose it.

This is true. :) I hardly even use the M79 anymore, but when I do I'm looking to boost for speed to catch up with the EFC or a jump to return a high positioned EFC on a map such as ctf_B2b. It annoys me when I see people pick the M79 and not bother to take advantage of rocket jumping, looking at it as an easy kill weapon.

but thats wat most people do; they dont treat it as a skill weapon and dont bother to ever try to. like somone said, the thing that DOES piss people off isnt when people close quarter you, but when a server is full of them....(there are other topics talking about this....)

On small maps, it doesn't matter WHAT you do. If everyone's using m79, you're as good as screwed anyway, unless they all totally suck (which has happened once or twice, it was fun). But most of the time, they don't totally suck, and you'll find yourself being constantly spawnkilled, blown around everywhere, and find it hard to get kills at all, let alone capture the flag. It's just severely annoying.

I think Desert Eagles and Spas are good choices since they sorta match the M79 arc but also have longer range for open areas. I still don't think M79's are problems in small maps, at least ones like Nuubia with lots of narrow tunnels and low ceilings. The LAW is always an option, too.

vis, you took a quote i hadnt even made yet!(i agree entirely, in otherwords). and mr domino, nope. if you were in a situation like the one vis stated and i know, youd know what hes talkin bout and youd know that it doesnt matter what you do. there is no disputing the situation that he told, the only ones that do havent been in one,(ON THE RESEIVING END).
so yeah, there! unless you were talking more about a broad spectrum sort of thing, and maybe, but still, just normal skirmishes with like, 2-3 of teh enemies using them arnt wat we're talking about....(again, there are/were topics concerning this exact thing...so we should get back on topic)

I'm not talking about merely countering an m79 on a small map. I agree that it's not hard at all to take on an m79er in any situation, as long as you're careful. What I'm referring to is an army of m79 users constantly blowing the hell out of everything in their path. Even if you take one or two out... the fast pace and intensity makes it impossible to strategise and take on each opponent with care.. there's just no time.

This is why I feel that something needs to change on the m79. It's just the quick fix when you're not doing so well, and too many people are all too willing to switch to it when things get rough. This is why weapon balance is so debatable. You can argue all the reasons why it's good in one situation and not another until the cows come home, but we still see people in ALL situations switching to m79/barret when the going gets rough... then the chain reaction starts, and bingo, everyone's using it. Even in small maps with lots of people, where, supposedly, it's not a good idea to use these weapons because there are multiple opponents to deal with, and because, supposedly, they aren't good choices for close range combat, people still use them anyway for that easy kill.

lol, you'd be surprised dude... I've seen a sinlge m79er clear an entire server (though maybe they were just sore losers).

problem is most people don't play "the way you're supposed to" lol, but you're right nonetheless.

personally, I like this idea. I tihnk 100% self damage would nothing but fair, and if yall complain about it then at least allow it for Realistic Mode or something, in my opinion. maybe 100% self damage for all weapons in Realistic would be good. just a thought, though

I think the m79 is perfect the way it is, most people underestimate how hard it can be to use, especially against a bunch of snipers in a long range map.

One on one a m79 player with any other weapon. If you lose you got some problems. M79 is good because it is one hit kill, it has 5 main routes for shots(straight left, top-left, straight up, top-right, straight-right) where other weapons have two main ways to shoot. Left and right. It can go far when you are going fast. It is fairly fast when you are moving fast. It is very easy if you miss to make other miss there shots from the explosion. But the bad parts of it is-short range when not moving, big arc(can be good or bad, its probably better for shorter distance weapons like this though), it is hard to use when someone is above you.

The problem with the m79 is as simple as this:

It's a one-hit-kill weapon.

Weapons like so are only fun to the people who use them, and not to the people who are killed by them.

I say (said) it should be a 2 hit kill weapon (damages like ruger or hand grenades) with really short reload time and larger blast radius
